When Everything Changes - 2

"Were you keeping an eye on him tonight?" Jax asked V.

"For part of the night." She said simply. "If you're asking me if I know if he
was involved with..." she gestured around. "This. Then I don't know. I
followed him here, but I had another case and he was with you and..."

"Damn." Jax said with a sigh. "I'm sorry. It would just be...nice if you could
honestly say.  'Yes, and he didn't do it.' I mean. I know you can't and it's
not you're fault, but..." Jax shook his head. "I hate doubting my brother."

"I'm sorry." V said, putting a hand on his shoulder and shrugging. "But I'll
tell you if Jerry's name comes up at the station."

"Thanks." Jax said with another sigh.

Brenda sat in the chair outside Robin's room, staring at her empty syrofoam
coffee cup. She looked up when she heard footsteps and saw Ned and Alexis
approach.

"Hi." She said; she got up and hugged Ned. "I'm glad you're okay, at least."
She glanced back through the window as she pulled out of the hug.

"How's Robin?" He asked, following her gaze. "She still hasn't woken up?"

"No." Brenda shook her head. "No change."

Ned looked in for another minute or so. "Does anyone have any idea who's
responsible?"

Brenda paused. "Jax thinks that there's an inkling of a chance that... Well,
it probably isn't true, but..."

"Who?" Ned asked quickly.

"Jerry. But it's just a theory. It's not even a theory." She corrected. "He's
just worred and..." Brenda shrugged. "It was probably just one of Jason's
business competitors or something like that."

~~

Jason picked up his cell phone and dialed seven digits quickly.

"Yeah, it's me." He said into the phone. "I need you to find out everything
you can about the bombing at Luke's. Whoever did it is going to pay." He said
steadily. "Don't worry about that yet. Just find out everything you can."

There was a pause. "I suggest that you check out Moreno, all the other major
competitors of ours,  you know people like that. I'll make you a list of
people on the inside later, but for now concentrate on the outside. Oh, and
check out Jerry Jacks too." He added. "Yeah. Bye."

~~

Mac sat with Felicia, watching Robin. Felicia looked at him concerned. "I'm
going to go get some coffee, okay? You want some?"

Mac looked at her, as though she had spoken Ancient Chinese. "Hmm?"

"Coffee. I'm going to get some. Do you want a cup?" She repeated.

"Yeah. Thanks." He said softly.

She forced a smile and kissed him on the cheek softly. "I'll be right back."

He nodded and sighed. He just sat there, alone in silence for a minute. He
looked up when he saw the door open. Robin's doctor, who happened to be Chris
Ramsey, walked in and motioned him into the hallway.

"How is she?" Mac asked.

Brenda, who was still in a chair, jumped up and joined them. (BTW: Ned and
Alexis had already left, so they weren't there.) "Do you know anything yet?"

"She sustained both internal and external traumas." Chris Ramsey started. "And
it's really too early to tell the full extent of her injuries. She has a
pretty bad concussion. There is a lot of swelling under her skull, but not so
much that she needs another procedure done for it...yet." He said. "There is
also internal bleeding, which will need operating. She is stable enough now so
that we're ready to try if you'll give consent." He turned to Mac. "Without
surgery, she'll be in really bad shape. With it, she has a chance."

~~

Ned and Alexis were standing by her car. She was pretty much leaning backwards
against it and he stepped forward once more so that she was only arm's length
away from him. She was looking away, past him at the gleaming, almost full
moon. He was looking straight at her.

"Alexis..." He started. He took a few fingers and brushed away a piece of
stray hair. She looked at him, obviously startled. "Just..." He paused,
obviously not saying what he'd planned to say. "Goodnight."

She looked past him at the moon again, as a cloud passed over it slowly, and
nodded. "Goodnight." She echoed softly. He leaned in and kissed her gently
before leaving. She leaned back against the car; she shook her head and sighed
as she watched him go.

Jax knocked on his brother's door. Jerry answered and looked at him
quizically. "What's wrong?" He asked with raised eyebrows, reading Jax's
expression.

"There was an explosion at Luke's Club not long after you left." Jax said,
seeing what reaction he'd get from Jerry.

"There was?" Jerry was apparently shocked.

Jax studied his brother suspiciously. "Yes." He said, playing it nonchalant.
"Robin was hurt. She is still unconscious."

"That's... horrible." Jerry offers. "Was she the only one?"

"Pretty much. Ned Ashton and Alexis Davis were trapped inside, but later they
were found basically unscathed, though a few more minutes and they would have
been severely burnt at best, and probably dead." Jax said, pouring himself a
drink at the bar in Jerry's room. "Robin may still die, Jerry."

"Brenda must be upset." Jerry commented, taking a sip from his own drink.

"She is terribly upset--and so am I." Jax paused. "Where were you?" He asked.

"What? When?"

"After you left Luke's. Where did you go? Who were you with? You said that you
had an appointment of some kind." Jax said.

"Are you asking me for an alibi, Jax?" Jerry raised his eyebrows.

"I'm asking you to answer the question, Jerry." Jax said, steadily.
