V and Jagger exchanged looks again as Veronica swept her
shawl up around her
shoulders and left. "Well, that was certainly... interesting."
He commented.
"What do you think?"
"She's a few sandwiches short of a picnic if you ask me."
V shrugged. "But she
seemed nice enough."
"Do you really think she killed her own daughter?" Jagger asked.
"I just watched a woman talk to both a wall and a chair
and then call two
different police officers Harlan, after her long-dead
ex-husband. I'm not
ruling anything out." V said dryly.
"Actually it was a door not a wall. It was right before
she gave me that...
interesting invitation. Who has a jade bathtub anyway?"
"Apparently Veronica--AKA Fruitloops--Barret does. Wonder
if she calls it
Harlan." V raised an eyebrow and Jagger laughed.
"Seriously, though. I mean, she was crazy, but homocidal? I don't think so."
"What else do we have to go on." V challenged. "Let's follow this up."
He nodded. "All I'm saying is that we shouldn't count
all the chickens just
yet."

Ned sat in his daughter's hospital room and watched as
Brooke, a tiny girl who
looked as fragile as a rose petal with all those tubes
and machines, fought
for her life. The ventilator forced her every breath,
keeping her alive. She
didn't blink, didn't move, didn't speak... she just lay
there and it was like
someone had grabbed his heart and twisted in inside him,
wrenching it around,
daring him to give up and cut himself off. But he couldn't.
He couldn't shut
himself off to this. And he didn't know how to work through
things any other
way. So, he was a wreck. And he couldn't do anything
about it.
"Hard, isn't it?" A voice asked from behind him. It was Lois.
"Yeah. I thought I told you to go home and get some sleep."
"That was hours ago. I did. As much as I could. Take your
own advice." She
rubbed his shoulder. "You're a wreck."
"i'm fine." He protested. "I'm fine." He didn't know exactly
who he was trying
to convince anymore, but the conversation didn't go any
further. They both
turned in shock as the little girl opened her lovely
brown eyes, blinked a few
times and with a question in her eyes, tried to speak
failing because of the
ventilator.

"Thank you... for this." AJ smiled as he set Michael down.
"I'm glad I got to
hold him."
"Yeah..." Carly shrugged. "One good turn deserves another,
right? I still
don't want him at that mansion." she sighed. "No Edward
either. Lila, Emily,
Monica, you...whatever. But no Edward and no mansion.
Never. Got it?"
"Got it." AJ repeated.
"Good." Carly sighs. "That's one thing taken care of."
"One thing?" AJ paused. "You sound overloaded. Want to talk about it?"
She bit back a laugh. "You want to hear about my problems?"
He shrugged. "Why not. We were friends once before...
maybe... maybe we could
try that again. What do you think?"
"I think that you're a glutton for punishment." She smiled.
"But I don't have
enough friends to inspire protest."
"So?" He prompted.
"I was just...flipping through the job-ads. I can't find
a single one I'm
qualified for." Wryly, "I'm not qualified for much."

Eve was eating lunch alone at the Recovery Room, when
the mystery man from a
few nights (Jagger to us) before, entered. He spotted
her and smiled. She
smiled back, wondering if he'd take it as a sign to come
over. He did come
over.
"Hi." He said, still smiling a warm smile at her, making
her thaw slightly and
then begin to melt. "I remember you."
"Unforgettable. That's me." She said lightly. "Want to sit?"
He shrugged and nodded. "Sure." He did so. "It's Eve, right? Eve Lambert?"
"That's my name." She said simply. "Now, you have to tell me your name."
"Jagger Cates."
Her mouth nearly dropped open. "J-Jagger Cates?"
~~
"Yeah?" Julia Barret answered her phone tersely. Her life
hadn't been going
well lately and she'd just gotten bad news.
"Julia?" Jax's voice came through.
"Oh." Regaining herself. "Jax? What's wrong?"
"It's Brenda." His voice was wraught with emotion and
Julia sunk to the couch,
waiting for the rest.

Scott Baldwin bumped into a brunette as he left the Grille.
"Oh!" She cried,
her purse knocked out of her hands. She had on a black
outfit and a black
shawl. (No hat this time.) She looked out of sorts and
then glared at him.
"I'm sorry." He said simply, retrieving her purse for
her. He glanced at her
again. She was quite beautiful, he noted.
"Yeah, yeah." She grabbed her purse. And then. "I'm sorry.
It's just been
a...really...bad...day." And then to his shock, she burst
into tears.

Alexis sighed as she compared two fingerprint samples.
Then another one to the
primary. Then another. Then another... for hours she'd
been doing it. No match
yet. And from several rooms Katherine frequented. "How
odd." She half-smiled,
wryly. "No match. I wonder why..."

Justus sat in the witness room with Mac Scorpio. "Are
you going to cooperate
or are you planning to try and catch the book once it's
thrown at you?"
Straight-forwardly, "I don't have anything for you."
"Okay." Mac sighed. "I didn't want it this way... but
if this is it. One last
chance: Jason or you?"
"It's going to have to be me."
Mac nodded. "In that case: Justus Ward you are under arrest,
you have the
right to remain silent..."

Helena spoke into the phone. "Hello..." She smiled coldly.
"I'd like to order
a paternity test." Pause. "So, who is it that I have
to call?" She nodded.
"Oh, you can! Well, yes. Yes. Thank you." She hung up
the phone and smiled to
herself again.
