"But Mommy this is the episode where Angel gets his soul back."
"Morgan." Brenda said sternly. "Do I have to use your middle name?"
"No." Morgan quickly shut
off the TV and she and her brother joined
their mother and father on the
couch.
"You guys I need to tell you something.
Do you remember how I told you
that Grandpa Mike's son was your
daddy and how he couldn't be around
right now?"
"Uh-huh." Scorpio said, nodding.
"Mommy?" Morgan said.
"Yeah Baby?"
"Did our daddy come home?"
"Yes he did baby."
"Where is he?"
"Mama?" Scorpio asked.
"What sweetie?"
"Is Sonny our daddy?"
Brenda looked at Sonny and then at their son. "Yes he is."
"How come you didn't tell us when he first came here?"
"He didn't know yet and I wasn't sure that he was staying."
"Oh." Scorpio turned to Sonny. "Are you staying?"
Sonny looked into his son's eyes,
eyes that reminded him of his own.
"Yes I am."
"Good, I'm glad." He reached up his arms and gave his father a hug.
"What about you Morgan? What
do you think about your daddy being around
now?"
"I like it, too." She smiled and
then she asked her mother, "Is Daddy
gonna live with us?"
"Actually he is but not here. We're gonna move."
"We are?"
"Yeah. Is that okay with you guys?"
"I guess so."
"I'll tell ya what. We'll
all go look at houses and we'll all decide on
one. If one of us doesn't
like it then we won't get it. Okay?"
"I like that idea."
"Me too."
"Me three." Sonny added.
"Okay you two why don't you go back
to watching your video and we'll
call you when dinner's ready?"
"Okay." Morgan and Scorpio
chorused hopping off the couch. Sonny and
Brenda rose and walked into the
kitchen to finish dinner.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Thanks for helping me put them
to bed tonight." Brenda said as she and
Sonny sat in the living room later
that night.
"No problem. Morgan called me Daddy tonight and Scorpio called me Pop."
"Yeah I know. I heard."
Brenda smiled and a few seconds later jumped
when she heard thunder crash outside.
"Is it raining?"
"Yeah it started while we were putting the kids to bed."
Brenda got up and went to the window. "It's coming down pretty hard."
"Yeah. Maybe I should get going."
"No don't."
"Why?"
"Rain's never been very good to
us. I don't want anything to happen to
you. You can stay here."
"Are you sure?"
"Absolutely. The couch is extremely comfortable."
"Okay."
"Stay here. I'll go get some
things for you." Brenda went upstairs and
Sonny stood. He walked over
to the fireplace and studied the pictures
lining the mantle. There
were pictures of Bren and their children,
Jason, Carly, Michael, and Spencer,
Robin, Nikolas, and Karina, Joe,
Karen, Lindsey, and Scotty, Frank,
Lark, Natalie, and Vincent, Ned and
Alexis, Lois and Brooke, Mike and
Mary. At the very end of the mantle
was a picture Sonny thought he'd
never see again. It was of his parents
on their wedding day.
"Mike gave that to me."
Sonny turned at the sound of Brenda's
voice. He hadn't heard her come
back downstairs. "He did?"
She nodded. "When I found
out I was going to have his grandchildren.
He was so happy." Brenda
smiled at the memory. "He said that Adella's
grandchildren should know what
a knock-out they had for a grandmother.
I think Morgan has her smile."
"Yeah. Yeah she does."
"Here's all the stuff you'll need
to be comfortable. Including
pajamas."
"Where'd you get men's pajamas?"
"They're yours. They got mixed
up when I got my stuff from the
penthouse."
"And you kept them?"
"Yeah well I thought about burning
them but then I realized it was a
waste of perfectly good pajamas.
Besides they're pretty comfortable."
"You wear them?"
"Yeah sure. Listen do you
need anything else? Cause if you don't I'm
going to sleep."
"I'm fine. Night Bren."
"Night Sonny." Brenda went
upstairs and Sonny made himself comfortable
on the couch. A few minutes
later he heard music. He shook his head
and went upstairs. He knocked
on the door.
"Bren?" No answer. He poked
his head in and saw her fast asleep in bed.
The room was lit by a candle on
her dresser and the light flickered
across the face. He slipped
in and as he walked to her side he listened
to the song playing.
I could stay awake just to hear
you breathing
Watch you smile while you are sleeping
While you're far away and dreaming
I could spend my life in this sweet
surrender
I could stay lost in this moment
forever
Every moment I spend with you is
a moment I treasure
Don't wanna close my eyes
Don't wanna fall asleep
'Coz I'd miss you baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
'Coz even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream would never
do
I'd still miss you baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
Laying close to you
Feeling your heart beating
And I'm wondering what you're dreaming
Wondering if it's me you're seeing
Then I kiss your eyes
And thank God we're together
I just want to stay in this moment
forever
Forever and ever
Don't wanna close my eyes
Don't wanna fall asleep
'Coz I'd miss you baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
'Coz even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream would never
do
I'd still miss you baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
I don't wanna miss one smile
I don't wanna miss one kiss
I just wanna be with you
Right here with you just like this
I just wanna hold you close
Feel your heart so close to mine
And just stay here in this moment
for all the rest of time
Baby, baby
Don't wanna close my eyes
Don't wanna fall asleep
'Coz I'd miss you baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
'Coz even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream would never
do
I'd still miss you baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
He knelt down beside her bed and
brushed the hair away from her face.
"I don't wanna miss a thing Brenda,
and I promise that I never will
again. I love you."
He softly kissed her forehead.
"I love Sonny!" Brenda shrieked
excitedly as she rushed into the offices
of C&B early the next morning.
The storm had passed and Brenda had woken
up to a fresh fruit platter, cheese
omelets and a hot, steaming cup of
Sonny's infamous java.
Carly looked up and giggled. "Oh really? And when did this come about?"
Brenda sighed, shaking her head.
"I don't know, I don't know. She got a
far off, dreamy look in her eyes.
"I just woke up this morning, and my
heart felt...good. *I* felt good.
And I walked down the stairs, Sonny
was there playing with the kids,
and I just knew. I love him."
Carly smiled. "Well, I can see that.
The question is: Are you going to
tell him?"
*****
"Hey, where were you last night?"
Jason asked, as Sonny entered Luke's
at the same time.
"With my children." Sonny replied.
"Oh really? That's all you did last night, play with your children?"
Sonny laughed. "I almost forgot
how blunt you are. Yes, that's all I
did."
"Oh."
"Yeah, I know you wanted to get all the juicy details."
"Hey, I'm a married man!" Jason
flashed his wedding ring in Sonny's face
for emphasis.
"Everytime I look at her. . ." Sonny
sighed. "Man. Being in love? It
feels good."
Jason laughed. "Well, if it's any
consolation, I always -well, not
always- thought you and Brenda
belonged together. Here's to the hopes
that you'll get your lady back."
He held up a glass of brandy.
"Since when do you drink?"
"It's not for me, it's for you.
Here." Jason picked up an empty glass
and they clinked them together.
Sonny gulped the liquid down. He was
staring into nothing when suddenly,
he got any idea.
"Jason?"
"Yeah?"
"Joe and Karen are watching your kids, right?"
"Yeah, they're taking them to see some Broadway play later today."
"Think they could take Morgan and Scorpio with them?"
"I dunno, they bought their tickets months in advance."
"Think you could try?"
"I guess...what-what are you up to?"
"Brenda's been so busy these past
few weeks, I just want to give her
something special. Oooh, ooh, great.
I'm gonna go...page me if you need
me."
"Sonny! What the hell are you doing!? Sonny!"
************************************
"Brenda, Sonny's on the phone!"
Carly called from the kitchen of the
tiny C&B studios.
Brenda smiled. "Okay. I got it,
thanks." She tried to stifle her
excitement. "Sonny?"
"Hey, beautiful, what's going on?"
Brenda sighed and twirled the phone
cord around her finger. "Nothing.
Carly and I are just finishing
the sketches for Lucy's dress, and then I
have to run them over to the seamstress."
"Can Carly do it?"
"Why?"
"Because I have a special evening for you planned."
Brenda laughed. "Sonny."
"I've already bought the food and
I've got the kids out, just you and
me, baby. You'll have the time
of your life, I promise. Just be at the
house by 8, at most."
Brenda sighed. "Fine. I guess I can try. No guarantees!"
"Fine, good, great."
"Bye."
"Brenda?"
"Hmm?"
"I love you."
"I-"
"See you later!" Sonny called, and hung up before she could respond.
~8~8~8~8~
Brenda entered the cottage, the
vision of beauty. She wore a tight black
dress that fell just below her
knees, high heeled black sandals, and a
high French roll on top of her
head, with long, curly tendrils shaping
her face. The cottage was equally
as beautiful, with candles lit
everywhere, and fresh rose petals
dropped about. Soft music flowed into
the room from her CD player, and
a delicious aroma floated in from the
kitchen.
"Sonny!?" She called.
"There you are!" Sonny answered
back, entering the room from the
kitchen. He looked unabashedly
handsome in a simple black tux.
"You look beautiful." Sonny told her.
"Thanks. So do you." Brenda looked
down at her dress and shrugged. "I
always keep an extra dress in the
office for emergencies. Figured might
as well get dressed up, since this'll
probably be one of the last times
I'll get to wear this thing." She
looked into his eyes and shrugged
shyly. "With my about to be so
fat with pregnancy and all."
"Fat or not, you're stunning." Sonny kissed her hand.
"So, what're we gonna do?" Brenda set her bag down by the door.
"Well, the linguini is still simmering, so we have plenty of time."
Brenda arched an eyebrow. "Plenty of time for what?"
"A dance." Sonny slowly pulled her
toward the small area he had cleared
away for dancing.
"Wow, you really went all out, didn't you?" She whispered breathlessly.
"Only for woman I love." Sonny walked
over to the stereo and turned it
on. He crossed back to Brenda and
took her hand.
And I'd give up forever to touch
you
Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest thing to heaven
that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right
now
Brenda looked into Sonny's eyes. "What're you doing, Sonny?"
"Dancing, what does it look like?"
She shook her head, almost as if
trying to clear it. "No, I mean,
what-this song..."
"Oh, isn't it great? It's not my
typical type of music, but I can't help
but love it."
"You don't have any ulterior motives?"
"Shouldn't I be asking you that?"
Brenda laughed.
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
Cause sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight
And I don't want the world to see
me
Cause I don't think that they'd
understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
And you can't fight the tears that
ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your
lies
When everything seems like the
movies
Yeah you bleed just to know your
alive
And I don't want the world to see
me
Cause I don't think that they'd
understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd
understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
Brenda had tears rolling down her
cheeks. She was suddenly so confused,
so unsure of what she wanted, what
was going on. Sonny lowered his head
to her shoulder and moved the spaghetti
strap of her dress down. He
kissed the smooth skin of her shoulder
blade, his fingers lightly
drumming against her back. Brenda
sighed and rested her head against
his. He pulled back and kissed
her lips, before suddenly lifting her
up. He started to carry her toward
the bedroom. . .
