Brenda laughed along with Jason,
Sonny and Carly as they strolled down
the main Port Charles drag, just
window shopping, and laughing about
stupid things.
"Ooh, Carly, look at this!" Brenda
gasped, and stopped to point in the
window of the local jewelry store.
For the last few years, she and
Carly had become obsessed with
jewelry and QVC. Every chance they got,
they'd turn on the TV and search
for new jewelry to order. Brenda was
now pointing to a gold ring with
a pear shape diamond in the center.
Carly laughed. "What is with you and those diamonds?"
Brenda swatted her friend playfully. "Its my birthstone, can I help it?"
"Oh, right," Sonny cut in, "April
1st. . . Hey, remember the time I
threw you your 21st birthday party
at Luke's?"
Brenda smiled. "I thought that you
were going to propose to me that
night."
"Yeah," Sonny said quietly. "A lot
of things have changed since then.
We've, uh, we've changed."
Brenda nodded as they continued
to stroll past the shops. "Yup. We sure
have."
Jason slid his arm around Carly's
waist and kissed her temple. "Hey,
what do you say I take Sonny into
that shop over there to get us some
food, and you talk to Brenda about..."
Carly nodded, leaned up, and kissed him softly. "I love you, Jason."
"Me too, I love you," Jason kissed
her back, before turning to Sonny.
"Hey, whaddya say we go into Don
Michael's and get some grub. Carly'll
take Brenda into the jewelry place
to look at that ring. Baby, what do
you want?"
"The usual. Bren?"
Brenda sighed, and licked her lips.
"Well... You know, I am kinda
hungry. How about a double cheeseburger,
large order of fries, a
milkshake and a cheesecake for
desert. A New York cheesecake with the
strawberry topping." To emphasize
her hunger, she licked her lips again
greedily. "Hurry!" Her friends
laughed at her. "What!?" Brenda cried
innocently. "I'm hungry! Why is
that a crime!?"
Sonny and Jason shook their heads
and walked away. As soon as they were
a safe distance across the street,
Sonny whispered, "Why is Jax still
alive after what he did to Brenda?"
Jason sighed. "Sonny, we talked about this."
"No, no, I just want you to refresh
my memory. Brenda is the most
beautiful woman, the most incredible
mother I have ever seen, she
doesn't deserve that!"
"Sonny, Brenda doesn't want to kill Jax!"
"WHY NOT!?!" Sonny prodded. "All
you told me was that Jax raped Brenda
because she didn't give him what
he wanted. What the hell was it he
wanted!?! You say Brenda wants
him alive? WHY!?"
Jason sighed. "Look, those are answers
that you're going to have to get
from Brenda. I'm not going to tell
you any more."
"So, you do know everything?"
"Of course!" Jason hissed as he
pulled open the door to the cafe.
"Brenda and I are closer than we've
ever been. I won't tell you any more
about what's been going on in her
life, Sonny. I can't talk to you about
her anymore."
******************
"Whoa, Bren, are you alright!?"
Carly rushed to catch her friend as she
slouched against a glass jewelry
case.
Brenda blinked and fought the wave
a nausea filling her stomach. "Whoa,"
Brenda muttered. "I don't know
where that could've come from, I-" She
stopped and a look of knowing registered
on her face. She groaned.
"Carllllyyyy! This can only be
one thing!"
"So soon!?" Carly prodded.
Brenda nodded. "It has to be. I knew that I shouldn't of-"
"No, no, no, we can't jump to conclusions."
Carly helped Brenda to her
feet.
Brenda nodded her head again. "Yes,
Carly. You told me I shouldn't, and
I knew that I shouldn't either."
"But how do we know that it's that?"
Brenda placed her hands on her hips.
"How could not eating breakfast and
going without food all day not
make me dizzy?! It's a known fact! No
wonder why I ordered so much food!
Sheesh!"
Carly watched in disbelief as Brenda
left the store. "I thought I told
that girl to stop smokin'." Carly
muttered beneath her breath. "She just
doesn't listen!"
Brenda sighed as she sat on the
wrap around bench of her front porch.
The kids were playing in the yard
with Michael and Spencer. Carly had
dropped them off while she and
Alexis went to look at office space for
C&B. She was originally
supposed to go with them but had woken up with
morning sickness. When she
called and told Carly she had ordered her to
stay home with the kids.
She looked back at the dress she was drawing
and frowned. It still didn't
look the way she wanted it to. Her
attention was caught by the ringing
of the cordless and she picked it up
and hit talk.
"Hello?"
"Bren, it's Ned."
"Hi Ned, what's up?"
"That's my question, you little sister have been avoiding me for weeks."
"No I haven't."
"Yes you have."
"Alright maybe I have a little."
"Uh-huh. So my question is why?"
"Long story Ned. Long complicated story."
"Have anything to do with Sonny?"
"A little."
"Start talking."
Brenda rolled her eyes and started
to tell Ned everything that had
transpired lately.

Sonny looked around the Recovery
Room and swallowed the lump in his
throat. This was Mike's place.
He'd been here once before he left and
Brenda had been bugging him to
go down again finally convincing him with
"Mike would've wanted you to feel
at home there." Spotting someone
behind the bar that he figured
could help him Sonny walked over to him.
"Excuse me?" The man looked up and
Sonny hoped that this was Joe. Jason
and Brenda had both told him that
ever since Frank was hooked on some
drug a few years ago you never
knew when he was going to bite your head
off for no reason. "I'm looking
for a Joe or Frank Scanlon."
"I'm a Joe or Frank Scanlon."
The man smiled. "Joe Scanlon. What can
I do for you?"
"I don't know if you know me but my name is Sonny Corinthos."
"You're Mike's son, right?"
"Right."
"Nice to finally meet you." Joe stuck out his hand and Sonny shook it.
"Thanks. I wasn't sure that you'd be glad to meet me."
"Why not?"
"Well I know Karen's your wife and you're pretty close to Brenda."
"Bren's like a sister to me.
I couldn't love her anymore than if we'd
grown up in the same house.
As for Karen I love her more than anything.
But the both of them have forgiven
you. I guess there's no reason for
me to hold a grudge."
"Thanks."
"No problem. I suppose you're here about the will."
"What will?"
"Mike's will. Frank and I
were just taking care of it since it couldn't
be sold or anything."
"What couldn't be sold?"
"The Recovery Room. You do know that Mike left it to you, don't you?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Brenda, honey I love you but you
get yourself into some of the biggest
messes I've ever seen."
"There's one more thing I haven't told you yet Ned."
"What? Go ahead tell me.
It can't stun me anymore than you have
already."
"Hold that thought. Ned I'm
pregnant."
Sonny stared at Joe stupidly, with
a look of utter confusion written on
his face. "What?"
"Mike left his club to you."
"Wh-why would he do that?" Sonny
sputtered. "He didn't even know
that...that I would be coming back
to Port Charles."
Joe shrugged. "Who knows why. But
it's yours everything in this building
is yours. Congratulations, man."
Joe smiled and held out his hand.
Sonny shook it slowly. "Thanks."
**************************
The silence on the other end of
the phone was terrifying. Brenda drummed
her fingers lightly on the top
of her bedside table. "Ned?" She finally
whispered.
"Pregnant?"
Brenda nodded. "Yeah, it-it's Sonny's baby, you know."
"I know."
"I...I don't know if I should tell him, Ned, I mean-"
"He's going to find out eventually
that you're pregnant, why wait?
Besides, you can't keep something
that big from him."
"Yeah, but, Ned, if I tell him about
this baby, wouldn't it make sense
to tell him about Morgan and Scorpio?"
Ned sighed. "Do what you think is
right, Brenda. Don't not do something
because you're afraid of the consequences.
Otherwise, we'd all be a
bunch of cowards."
Brenda sighed herself. "Alright.
Thanks, Ned. I gotta finish this stuff
for C&B. Bye."
"Bye."
Brenda set the phone back in its
cradle, when she suddenly heard Sonny's
voice, "That's really good."
She looked up and saw Sonny standing
beside her, with a towel wrapped
around his waist, his chest and
torso dripping with shower water. His
hair was slightly wet...he smelled
of aftershave.
"Thanks," she found herself saying.
"You have a natural talent, baby,"
Sonny whispered, leaned down and
kissed her lips softly. He pulled
back and turned, and then suddenly, he
vanished.
Brenda shook her head, insanely
confused. "What the hell just happened
here?" She whispered beneath her
breath.
Without thinking, Brenda reached
over for the phone again. She dialed
Sonny's cell phone number.
"Corinthos," came his slightly tired, yet still sexy voice.
"Sonny?" Brenda whispered.
"That's me."
"It's Brenda," she told him.
Sonny laughed. "You don't think
I know what your beautiful voice sounds
like, baby?"
Brenda smiled and tucked her hair
behind her ear. She blushed slightly
like a school girl. "I need to
talk to you, Sonny."
"About what?"
"I'd rather not tell you over the phone."
"Why?"
"Sonny..." Brenda cleared her throat.
"Please. Can you just...can you
stop on by? There's *so much* you
need to know, I want to be straight
with you for-" *For our baby's
sake* she whispered to herself "-all of
our sakes. So, will you?"
"Yes, of course, you know you only
gotta snap your fingers and I'd come
running. There's something that
I want to talk to you about also. So,
uh, it's good you called."
Brenda smiled. "Great. See you in ten?"
"Definitely."
"Great."
Brenda sat on the steps of her front
porch waiting for Sonny. She could
hear the kids playing in the living
room while she waited. Through the
window she caught sight of Spencer's
blonde head. She bit her lip and
closed her eyes. Alex was
the same age as Spencer. If Alex lived here
they'd be friends. But Alex
didn't live here. Alex could never live
here. Brenda remembered the
night Alex had been born. Afterwards the
doctor had tried to place her in
Brenda's arms, but she hadn't even been
able to look at her let alone hold
her so instead the doctor had given
her to Julia. Within a few
days it was decided Julia would take Alex
back to London with her.
Jason had paperwork done to make sure that
Alex could never be connected to
Jax. All files concerning Alexandra
Elizabeth Barrett were closed.
It was the only way she'd be safe from
her father and the rest of his
crazy family.
"Penny for your thoughts?"
A soft voice said. Brenda opened her eyes
and saw Sonny standing in front
of her.
"Hi." She smiled.
"Hi." He smiled back.
"I'm glad you're here."
"I told you I'd come, didn't I?"
"Yeah. Sonny we need to talk. A lot."
"Okay. Do you wanna go inside?"
Brenda looked inside and chewed
her lip in thought for a minute before
turning back to him. "No
let's walk. Phil's here. The kids should be
okay."
"Alright." Brenda rose and
they started down the little dirt path
towards the park where they first
seen each other on the night Robin
died. "Do you wanna go first?"
Sonny asked after a few minutes of
silence.
"No you go. What's your news?"
"I talked to Joe today and he gave me some news."
"Oh yeah?"
"I own the Recovery Room. Mike left it to me lock, stock, and barrel."
"Really? Sonny that's great. I guess I was right."
"About what?"
"Mike wanting you to feel at home
there. Maybe now the food'll
improve."
"Definitely." Sonny paused. "Your turn."
"Let's sit. This could take
a while." She motioned to the very same
bench where they'd sat only a month
ago staring at the same stars. Once
they were situated on the bench
Brenda looked at Sonny and spoke in a
very soft voice. "I lied
to you."
"About?"
"Basically everything. Morgan
and Scorpio weren't the product of rape.
They were the product of love.
Our love for each other."
"You lied about being raped?"
"No I just lied about when it happened.
It was right after Mike died.
But I do know who it was and I
did get pregnant."
"Who was it?"
"It was Jax. The night someone
broke in? The someone was Jax. He was
looking for Alexandra."
"That's a beautiful name. Where is she?"
"With Julia. Sonny when she
was born I couldn't even look at her. So
Julia took Alex home with her.
She keeps me updated with pictures,
letters, and videotapes.
The latest are drawings. Julia says that she
gets the artistic streak from me.
Morgan has it to."
"What about Scorpio?"
"Five years old and already a better cook than yours truly."
"Takes after his old man, huh?"
"Sonny I know that no amount of
apologizing will ever make up for my
lying to you but I am so sorry
for not telling you the truth."
"I know. Is there anything else?"
"Yes."
"I'm almost afraid to ask." Sonny said, half-kidding.
"I'm pregnant."
