Second Chance at Love - 6

Brenda pulled up in front of the PC Hotel and getting out of the car she
practically threw her keys at the valet as she stormed into the lobby
only stopping at the front desk long enough to ask what room Jax was in.

"Penthouse miss."

"Thanks."  She walked over and into an elevator and pressed the top
floor.  Her bodyguard Phil, made it into the elevator just in time.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jason and Carly walked into the penthouse and were greeted by Sonny
pacing.  He stopped when he saw them walk in.
"Where are the kids?" Carly asked.  She had a feeling this wasn't gonna
be pretty.
"Upstairs playing."
"Oh good.  Do you all want anything to drink or eat?"
"No thanks Baby I'm not hungry."
"Sonny?"
"That's okay Carly."
"Okay then I'm gonna go see what I can make for dinner."  Carly went
into the kitchen and Sonny and Jason were left staring at each other.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Brenda knocked on the door to the penthouse.  A few minutes later and
Jax opened the door.

"Brenda, this is a surprise.  Would you like to come in?"

"No because this won't take long.  You listen to me you sick bastard my
life and the lives of my children are none of your damn business.  The
only reason you're not in a grave is because of Alex and if you'd like
to continue to walk upright I suggest you get your pansy ass outta town
real soon or I'm going to let Alexis and Carly shoot off the protruding
parts of your body.  Are we clear?"

"Crystal."

"Have a nice life Jax."  Brenda turned and went back into the elevator
leaving Jax to stare after her and Phil.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"How was lunch?"  Sonny asked lightly.
"It was good." Jason was nervous.  He knew Sonny was going to ask him
something he wasn't prepared to answer.
"Did Carly tell you about the little package I received today?"
"Yeah she did."
"She tell Bren?"
"Yeah."
"Jason Bren's lied to me before but you haven't.  I'm gonna ask a real
simple question and I want a real simple answer."
"Okay."
"Are Morgan and Scorpio my children?"
Jason cleared his throat and looked down at his hands. "What, uh, what
did Brenda, uh, tell you?" He scratched the back of his head.
"That she was raped. Is that a lie, Jason?" He whispered it softly.
Jason sighed. "No, the fact that she was raped isn't, but, uh-"
"So they are my children?" Sonny asked quietly.
Jason nodded his head once, subtly. "Y-yes. Brenda. . .look, I wasn't
supposed to tell you, Sonny. Now that I did, Brenda's probably never
going to forgive me. I understand that you're pissed, but, I was torn
between two best friends and-"
"Brenda?" Sonny whispered, instead. "*Pregnant?*" He smiled. "Wow. I
knew she'd always make a great mother."
Jason nodded, and cleared his throat again. "She does. She...she looked
beautiful during her pregnancy, Sonny. Everytime she walked into a room,
she just lit it up. But, it was so soon after you had left her that she
found it hard to accept that. She even considered abortion, but
discarded that pretty quickly."
"Good, I'm glad." Sonny looked down at his hands. "I-I have to see her."
"Sonny, no-"
"Yes, Jason. I know what I'm doing, alright? I-it's alright, okay? She
asked you to lie to me, and that was wrong." Sonny left quickly after
that, and didn't hear Jason whispered,
"No more than when you asked me to lie to her."
****************************
Brenda was strolling through her tiny garden to cool down, blow off some
steam, a cup of tea in her hand.  Her long, smooth legs were hidden by a
dark blue long skirt. She wore a matching tank top and a pair of
sunglasses. Her hair was down around her shoulders, and she looked
absolutely beautiful. She walked toward the small pond in her backyard.
She knelt down and ran her fingers through the smooth waters.
"Nice yard."
Brenda's head snapped up when she saw Sonny standing a few feet from
her. He wore a black leather jacket, a tight white T-shirt, and blue
jeans. Brenda couldn't help the fact that she wanted to devour him right
then and there. She scrambled to her feet and brushed her wet hands
against her skirt. "What are you doing here?"
"We need to talk," Sonny whispered.
Brenda cleared her throat. There went her heart again, pounding away at
thirty-thousand miles-per-hour. "We have nothing to talk about."
"Do you know what happened here five days ago?" Sonny whispered. He was
walking closer and closer to her.
"Yes, I do."
"I made love to you," Sonny told her anyways. "It was totally
unexpected, as you can see I didn't wear a condom."
"You stopped wearing condoms when we made love a long time before Sunday
night, Sonny," she whispered softly.
"I know. But that was when we were together. When we lived together,
baby.  We're not together now. But if you're pregnant, if you get
pregnant, you'd tell me, wouldn't you? You..." He reached out to caress
her cheek. "You wouldn't keep something as big as a baby from me? You
wouldn't keep me from my child, would you? Because you know that that is
wrong."
Brenda looked down at her feet. "Sonny-" She cleared her unusually thick
throat. "You know I could never lie to you about that." She hoped he
didn't notice the fact that she avoided eye contact.
"Good." Sonny replied. "Great. Now that we-" He laughed and pointed
between the two of them "-have reached that understanding, now that we
have done that, I can do what I really came here to do."
"What's that?" Brenda asked him, licking her lips nervously as she gazed
into his beautiful eyes.
"This." Sonny's arms reached out and pulled her against him. His mouth
came crashing down to hers, but was surprisingly soft. His tongue slid
into her mouth and instantly left her powerless. Brenda sighed and
kissed him back, wrapping her arms around his neck. The kiss was over
too soon, and it left her as all of his kisses left her: dizzy,
glassy-eyed, breathless, and rosy-lipped. She covered her mouth, her
burning mouth and looked into his face. "Sonny-" Her heart was feeling
something familiar.  Something she hadn't felt in a long time.
"I've got to go." He turned, and she whispered softly,
"No. Stay-don't go yet."
He turned and looked at her. "What?"
Brenda smiled. She shrugged almost shyly. "Well, believe it or not, I
can make a killer pasta sauce these days. Uh. . .Lois has the kids for
the afternoon, left me some time to think, but she's coming back with
them and Brooke Lynn, and I, uh, was gonna throw them a surprise dinner.
What do you say you help me out? I mean, you are THE BEST cook I've
ever, ever met and I could really use your help to pull this off."
Sonny laughed. Brenda's heart quickened when she saw those familiar
dimples. "You sure?"
Brenda nodded. "I'd love it more than anything if you'd stay, Sonny. I
want us...to try and put the past behind us."
He shrugged. "Yeah, okay."
Brenda beamed. "Okay." She reached out and took Sonny's hand. When he
started to walk slowly back to the cottage, she tugged his arm. "C'mon!!
We only got 90 minutes!!!"
Sonny laughed again and followed her inside. He knew that he wasn't
going to tell her that he knew. He would wait for her to tell him. He
had all the time in the world to win her back: and that's exactly what
he planned to do.
"Jason?" Carly said after watching her husband alternate between staring
at the phone and the door for about ten minutes.
"Yeah?"
"What are you doing?"
"Waiting."
"For what?"
"Fallout.  Bren's either gonna call or come over and tell me she never
wants to speak to me again."
"Oh that."
"Yeah that."  Jason sighed.
"Well do you want dinner while you wait?"
"Sure.  What is it?"
"The specialty of the house.  Meatloaf."
"Sounds great.  Make sure I get the end piece."
"Of course."  Carly smiled and went back into the kitchen and Jason
continued to stare at the phone, waiting.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Hey that's not half bad."  Sonny said in shock, after tasting Brenda's
sauce.

"Thanks.  I told you so."

"Alright I admit your cooking has improved."

"It had too.  I could raise Morgan and Scorpio on take-out, could I?
Although Scorpio wouldn't mind it, especially if it came from Luke's."

"Yeah?"

"Oh yeah.  He worships the cheese fries.  At least he used to.  Since
Bruno quit the food's sucked royally."

"So Bruno finally quit, huh?"

"Yep.  Ever since then Luke's been doing the cooking."

"You're kidding."

"Nope."

"No wonder Jason said business was slow."  Just then the front door
could be heard opening.

"Hey Bren!  We're home!"  Lois shouted.

"In here Lo."  Brenda shouted back.

"Hey girl-" Lois stopped short when she saw Sonny.  "Hi Sonny."

"Hey Cerullo.  Where's my goddaughter?"

"In the living room."

"Excuse me for a moment ladies.  I'm gonna go charm the kids."

"Good luck.  Morgan's as stubborn as her mother."

"And her Aunt Lois."  Brenda shot back.

"I'll try anyway."  Sonny went into the living room and Lois looked at
Brenda.

"Okay, spill it."

"He came over, we talked, and I asked him to stay for dinner, end of
story."

"Oh no you don't.  What did you talk about?"

"Do I have your word?"

"Always."

"When he was here the other night we slept together and we didn't use
anything.  There's a good chance I could be pregnant and he realized
that."

"And?"

"And he just wanted to make sure that I wouldn't lie to him and keep the
baby from him if I were."

"Oh boy."

"I told him I'd never do that to him."

"Brenda!"

"Lois what was I supposed to do?  Say, 'By the way Sonny you know those
two kids I told you weren't yours, well they are.'  He'd kill me."

"I might beat him to it."  Lois just looked at her friend.  The silence
that had been growing was interrupted by shrieks of laughter from the
living room.  Lois and Brenda went and poked their heads out of the
kitchen and saw Morgan, Brooke, and Scorpio all jumping on Sonny as he
tickled them.  Lois looked at her friend and frowned as a tear slipped
down her face.  She watched her touch her stomach lightly. "That
Sonny'll make a good father someday." she whispered.

"Someday." Brenda said nodding.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jason jerked awake when the door opened and closed later that night.  He
blinked when the light was turned on.  It took a minute but when the
room came into focus he saw Sonny.
"Sonny?"
"Hey Jason, did I wake you?"
"Yeah.  Where you been?"
"Brenda's."
"Oh.  Oh!  What happened?"
"We had a talk and she asked me to stay for dinner with Lois and the
kids, since Lo's heading back to Bensonhurst tomorrow."
"And?"
"And now we're gonna talk."
"About?"
"You said before that Bren wasn't lying about being raped."
"Yeah, so?"
"Do you know who it was?"
"Yeah but Sonny there's a lot more to it than that."
"So tell me.  Starting with, who raped Brenda?"
"Jax.  It was Jax."
