Innocence Lost - 3

Carly hadn’t seen Jason for almost a week.  She found herself thinking
about him almost every second of every day since the night on his
motorcycle.  It was driving her crazy.  She did not like to admit that
someone could have this much of an affect on her.  She had just stepped
out of the shower and was rubbing a towel absently against her hair when
she heard a knock on the door.  A bewildered look passed across her
face, her nose wrinkled slightly.  Who would be visiting her?  She had
met virtually no one in town except a few nurses at the hospital where
she had just gotten a job.  She tightened her silky robe, flipped her
hair over her head and opened the door.  The chain was still fastened,
only allowing a few inches for Carly to poke her nose out.  When she saw
Jason, her heart involuntarily skipped a few beats.

“Am I supposed to fit through there?” Jason asked, amused.

Carly shut the door and allowed herself a calming breath before she
unfastened the chain and opened the door fully.  There he stood, looking
gorgeous as usual, holding a pizza box in one hand and a brown paper bag
in the other.  Carly stepped aside, allowing him in, wishing she’d at
least made the bed that morning.  There were random pieces of clothing
strewn about, mostly hanging off the chair backs and closet doors.

“Did you mug the pizza guy on the way over?” she asked, only half
joking.  Kidding on the square is what her mother had called it.
Carly’s smile faded at the unexpected reminder of Virginia.  She pushed
the thoughts aside and once again smiled brightly at Jason. He wasn’t
smiling back.

“Is pizza okay?” he asked, concerned.  “I heard that everyone likes it.”

Carly gave Jason a look that he couldn’t quite read, but grabbed the box
from him and bounded onto her bed with it.  Spreading out on her
stomach, her legs bent at the knee and crossed together in the air, she
opened the box and breathed in the smell.  Jason watched this, pleased
with her reaction.  She looked almost too good to resist in her black
silky robe, her wet hair reminding him of the rainstorm the night they’d
met.  Following her lead, he picked up the brown bag he’d been carrying
and sat opposite her on the bed, at the other side of the open pizza
box.  Carly had already picked out a slice and was devouring it.

“What’s that?’ she asked, her mouth full, gesturing with the half-eaten
slice to the brown bag.

Jason reached over and pulled a case of beer out of the bag.  He looked
at Carly uncertainly.  Carly laughed, swallowing her bite.

“Subtle,” she said, raising her eyebrows at him.

Jason was confused once again.  “The pizza guy said beer is the best
thing to drink with pizza,” he explained slowly.  He lowered his eyes,
glancing at the cardboard carton he was holding, wondering if it was the
wrong thing to do.

Carly put her hand to her mouth.  She kept forgetting that he didn’t
*know*.  She felt guilty for making fun of his motives.  Looking down at
the pizza, Carly realized something else.  “You don’t know what this
tastes like, do you?”  Her eyes were bright, excited.   She pushed her
pizza slice toward his face so he could take a bite.  He did, and chewed
slowly.  Carly watched him expectantly.  She had never met someone who
had never tasted pizza before.  And beer!  This was going to be fun.
Jason was nodding now, reaching for his own slice.  Carly smiled and
happily took another bite.  She tossed the crust down back into the box,
uneaten, and reached for the beer, tearing the cardboard open.
Retrieving two bottles, she twisted the top off of one and handed it to
Jason.  She kept her eyes on him as she swiftly, expertly twisted off
her own cap and took a long swig of the cold liquid.  She giggled as
Jason took a small sip and made a face.

“Oh come on,” she teased, pulling herself up into a sitting position and
adjusting her robe.  “A big leather
jacket-wearing-motorcycle-riding-macho guy like you can’t handle a
beer?!”

Jason raised his eyebrows, his ego bruised, and took a long swig.  Carly
clapped her hands together.

“That’s more like it!” she said, her eyes shining, then leaned her head
back and took another large swallow.  Jason mimicked her, looking at his
bottle that was now more than three-quarters gone.  Carly gazed at him
amusedly before lowering her voice and leaning over the pizza box to
whisper, “Nobody actually *likes*  the taste the first time…it’ll get
better after a while.”

Jason smiled at this, reaching under her and grabbing another piece of
pizza. His hand brushed her body as he did so and Carly jumped back,
surprised at the electricity that shot through her.  To cover her shock,
she quickly tipped her beer bottle back and finished it off in one large
gulp.  She reached for another one right away, needing to be buzzed to
steady her nerves.  Jason watched in amusement as she quickly downed
another beer.

“Should I drink that much too?” he asked, not really expecting her to
answer.  He was amazed at this girl’s ferocious ability to transform
herself to every situation.  If she wanted to drink, she drank.  That
was how Jason wanted to be, but he kept getting told it was wrong by
people who supposedly loved him.  Jason didn’t love  anyone.  Not even
himself.  It was an emotion he was completely unfamiliar with, and from
what he had seen of it, he didn’t want to feel it.  If they way you
treat people you love is the way the
Quartermaine’s treated him, he wasn’t going to wish that on anybody.

Carly, now slightly buzzed from pounding her last beer, leaned over and
grabbed two more bottles, one for herself and handed Jason his second.
She regarded him unsteadily, twisting open the third bottle of the night
and tipping it to her lips.  She knew she looked like a drunken idiot
but really didn’t care.  The way this guy made her feel was just too
much.  She didn’t want this to be happening.  She didn’t need this to be
happening.  She didn’t need her heart broken again.

They both finished the next bottle in silence.  Carly drank hers slower
this time but still felt her buzz grow stronger.  She wasn’t drunk,
she’d need a couple more for that, but a slight numbing of the senses
was doing her just fine.  Jason finished his and another slice of pizza
before speaking again.

“I take it it was the right kind of beer,” he said, laughing at the way
she was swaying just slightly back and forth.

Carly shot him a dirty look.  “You make me nervous,” she pouted, then
chastised herself in her head for revealing too much.  It had never
taken a lot to make her spout her feelings involuntarily.  A few measly
beers were nothing compared to the pure fire that was Carly Roberts!
Carly chuckled a bit at this, and reached for another slice of pizza.
She nibbled on it somewhat morosely before a thought occurred to her and
she shot another look at Jason.

“How the hell did you know where I live?”

Jason looked at the rumpled unmade bed underneath him and smiled.  “I
told you I’d find you,” he stated simply.

Carly gave a slight smile in return, curving her legs out to one side
and running a hand through her now dry hair.  She let her robe fall open
just a little, just enough to inspire a little imagination on Jason’s
part.  Jason shifted almost immediately and Carly knew he’d noticed.  He
brought his hand up to his face, running two fingers from his temple
down his cheek, in an almost thoughtful gesture.  His hand moved over
his lips and down his chin, as if he could almost feel her touching him.
Carly liked this, and, although her mind was already clouded, she
brought another beer to her lips, letting a small amount pass through to
her mouth, then more and more.

Jason was beside himself.  He pushed the pizza box out of the way and
moved towards her, slowly, almost methodically.  His blue eyes bore into
her, and Carly could not break the stare.  When he was close enough,
Jason reached out and took the bottle from her, taking a swig for
himself, then gently placing the bottle back to her lips and pouring
some into her open mouth.  Carly giggled a bit and swallowed the liquid,
a small amount dribbling onto her chin.  She used a finger to wipe off
her chin, then seductively licked the alcohol off of her finger.  Jason
took another swig of beer, this one larger, and again, poured a bit into
Carly’s mouth, then returned the bottle to his.  He finished it off in
one quick guzzle, then, tossing the bottle aside he brought his lips
crashing down onto Carly’s letting the alcohol he’d just drank swirl
around in both their mouths.  Jason leaned his body into hers, holding
the back of her head as he lowered her gently onto the bed.  His mouth
explored hers with so much enthusiasm it was as though he’d never been
there before.  He ran his fingers through her hair and down her cheeks
and neck, tracing every curve and contour of her body.  Reaching under
himself, he found the tie of her robe and swiftly pulled the knot.

Carly didn’t resist as the silky material fell open.  She couldn’t
remember any of the reasons she had resisted Jason before.  They were
all a blur now.  Her entire mind was swimming, and the only clear
thought she could decipher was that she wanted this man more than
anything right now.  She tipped her head back and groaned as she felt
Jason’s kisses move down her neck to her collar bone and finally reach
her breasts.  Everything he did was so soft, yet somehow seemed so full
of force. Everything around Carly, including the bed underneath her,
seemed to drop away.  She was in a state of complete bliss, a feeling
she’d never really felt before.  She ran her hands over Jason’s back,
pulling at his shirt almost frantically, wishing it just wasn’t there.
Jason stopped what he was doing for a second and pulled it quickly over
his head.  Carly caught his gaze in that second and almost realized what
she was doing.  But when he smiled, ever so slightly, she pulled his
face back toward hers, ignoring any inhibitions that may have tried to
creep into her conscious.

Jason felt shivers go up his spine as she trailed her fingernails up and
down his back.  He had never felt desire like this.  Not that he could
remember anyway.  Carly was soft and beautiful, and Jason wanted to know
every part of her by heart.  His head was rushing, he didn’t know if it
was from the alcohol or from Carly or both.  He didn’t care.  He knew
that he had to be with her, like everything in his life depended on it.

******************************

Carly awoke the next morning to the brilliant sun streaming through the
windows. She instantly remembered what had happened the night before.
Why else would she completely space on closing the windows?  She was
almost afraid to turn over and look at him.  How could she have been so
careless?  Her eyes traveled over to the strewn pizza box with half a
congealing pizza still inside and seven empty beer bottles, four and a
half of them consumed by her.  This gave her the answer.  She’d been
drunk and just plain stupid.

Carly groaned and pushed herself up, reaching for her discarded robe
that had somehow made it’s way to the lamp on her night stand.  She got
up, gingerly stepping so as to not aggravate the pounding in her head.
She padded around in bare feet, avoiding all eye contact with her bed
and the man sleeping in it.  The pizza box had to go. Carly felt like
throwing up just looking at it.  She opened her front door a crack and
tossed it outside, figuring she’d pick it up later if no one picked it
up first.  The beer, still cool because the window had been left open
all night, was quickly tossed in the fridge.

Jason stirred in his sleep, causing Carly to freeze where she was.  He
turned over onto his stomach, breathing a heavy sigh as he did so.
Carly let out a breath when he didn’t move again.  ‘What the hell are
you doing?’ she chastised herself.  This was *her* apartment, humble
though it was, he was in *her* bed, and she was freezing like a deer in
the headlights.  She wasn’t going to be able to avoid him forever, and
why should she?  It’s not like she hadn’t had a one night stand with
some random guy before.  What was so different about this?  She didn’t
want to admit it, but this time, she didn’t want it to be a one night
stand.  She couldn’t tell what she wanted it to turn into yet, but she
did know that he was not only the most exciting lover she’d ever had,
she really felt like she could talk to this guy…maybe it was the fact
that he had no real opinions on things since he had no past to base his
judgment on.  It certainly was refreshing to hang out with someone with
no past for a change.  Carly seemed to always be chasing hers until  she
had decided she couldn’t run from it anymore.

****************************

Jason awoke when he heard the shower stop.  He looked around the room
and saw a sliver of light from under the bathroom door.  He thought
about Carly and what had happened the night before.  He let out a deep
sigh, a smile finding it’s way to his face.  He couldn’t imagine a
feeling better than how he'd felt last night.  Was it just Carly?  Or
was it like that with everyone?  Jason found himself not caring.  As
long as he could be with Carly, why would he need anyone else?

Carly opened the bathroom door and stepped into the room, fully clothed
with a towel on her head.  She regarded the now-awake Jason.  He looked
beautiful, his hair as messy as hair that short can be, his broad
shoulders curving into a gloriously well-muscled chest that she’d been
content running her hands over all night.  She blushed at the thought
and averted her eyes.

“What do you want to do today?” Jason asked, sitting up in her bed,
leaving himself covered from the waist down.

Carly nearly jumped for joy.  He wanted to spend the day with her?  This
guy was too much.  If he’d have wanted to leave, he would have.  He
didn’t know enough about the “rules of society” to know it wasn’t the
respectable thing to do.  Just like he didn’t know about saying good
morning, or any type of greeting for that matter.  Her defenses,
nevertheless, automatically kicked in.

“What makes you think I’m doing anything with you?” she asked, pulling
the towel off her head and shaking her hair out.

Jason watched this, thinking about how much he would love to be with her
again and again.   “I was *hoping* you would,” he said honestly.

Carly immediately softened.  A smile played on her lips.  Jason
surprised her every time he opened his mouth.  She had no idea what he
was doing to her but for some reason she didn’t want to spend any time
*without* him.  She might give him a hard time about it, but certainly
wasn’t going to give up the opportunity to the spend the day with him.

“What’d you have in mind?” she asked, pulling open the refrigerator and
retrieving a jug of orange juice.  She opened the cap and drank straight
from the bottle.  “Juice?” she asked, holding the bottle out to him.

Jason shook his head.  He leaned over, pulling his jeans out from under
the bed, and started to put them on.  Carly was disappointed to notice
he’d already put his boxer shorts back on sometime during the night.
She smiled at this thought.  A girl can dream can’t she?  Once clad in
jeans, Jason sat on the edge of the bed, closer to where Carly stood in
her small makeshift kitchen.

“I wouldn’t mind doing what we did last night again,” Jason said
reaching out for her.

Carly stayed put.  Her smile faded.  She rolled her eyes in disdain.
“Of course,” she lamented, glaring at him.  Jason’s arms dropped back to
his sides.  That look of confusion that Carly had become so familiar
with crossed over his face again.  She pursed her lips, willing herself
to explain rather than yell and kick him out.  Running her fingers
through her damp hair, she chose a nearby chair to sit in.

“Okay, Jason, I know you’re new at this so I’m gonna try to explain it
to you.  Women are not just for having sex with whenever you want.”

Jason nodded, like he understood.  “I know, I like to kiss you too…”

Carly shot him a nasty stare.

“And talk to you and learn things from you, like how good pizza is and
how funny you are when you drink too much beer....” Jason continued.

Carly couldn’t help but smile at this.  She decided to let him off the
hook this time.  She sauntered over to him, giving him a sweet look.
She walked into his arms and perched on his knee, encircling her arms
around his neck.  "I think..." she said, placing small kisses on his
forehead, temple, and cheek.  "I think I could teach you a lot of
things."

Jason murmured from deep in his throat.  He tipped his face up, settling
a soft kiss on her lips.  "Like what?" he whispered against her mouth,
trying to deepen the kiss.

Carly pulled away, laughing slightly.  She shook her head in a somewhat
scolding gesture before getting up and throwing his shirt at him.  "Like
how much fun the park can be on a beautiful day like this!" she
exclaimed, beaming at him.  Jason gave her a blank stare.  Carly grabbed
her brush, running it through her hair before pulling him up.  "Come
on!" she said, opening her front door and ushering him, still only half
dressed, out.  "Wait till you try Ben & Jerry's ice cream!" Carly was
musing, as they made their way down the hall, stepping over and
completely ignoring their pizza box.

Jason smiled to himself, somehow knowing that he'd have fun no matter
what he did as long as Carly was there.
