When Everything Changes 25

Chapter 25: Lost...

AJ reached over to hold Keesha. "It will." He hoped it would at least. She
leaned back into him.

"Yeah?" She asked, hopefully looking at him with her dark eyes large. He
nodded and she smiled slightly. "I hope so." She whispered. "I hope so."
Pause. "For me and Mama."

Jason sighed as he sat down on the couch. There were no leads on Robin. He was
being watched like a hawk by the PCPD, even more than usual. Michael was gone.
Carly was gone. Justus was giving up. And Jason was finding it hard not to
crumble. He didn't have anything anymore. Nothing but an angry feeling that
welled up inside of him and left him empty when it did fade.

~~

Alexis kissed Ned again, this time needy and urgent. He lifted her to her
feet, still kissing her. Then, his lips trailed down her neck, and her hands
made their way to the buttons of his shirt. Unskillfully and distracted from
the fact that he was ravaging her neck and face with kisses, she just barely
managed to undo the buttons. And then, pulled him into a full kiss as he
pushed off his shirt. He was better with her buttons, undoing them quickly,
with ease, never breaking the kiss. Then, his lips trailed over her collarbone
and shoulders, making her moan softly, almost inaudibly. He went back to a
full kiss, exploring her mouth, as he pushed her slowly, gently backwards,
trying to get to the bedroom, but overshooting the door pressing her against a
wall instead, and struggling with the clasp of her bra, not getting it still,
and pushing himself and her to the ground since it seemed impossible to
navigate a way to the bedroom.

But she tensed. "No. Stop."

Her voice was urgent and he did, looking into her eyes. "What?" He asked
softly, searching her eyes.

"I'm sorry." She trembled slightly. "I...just..." Shaking her head.

"It's okay." He whispered gently. "Just tell me what I did wrong."

"You didn't do anything wrong..." She whispered back. "Just..." Her voice
cracked slightly, with vulnerability. "Just not here. Not on the floor. I
just..." She shook her head, sighing. "It's silly. It's just..."

He understood. "Oh, God... Alexis, I'm sorry..." He, gently, touched the side
of her face. "I'm sorry."

He slowly pulled away and stood up, holing a hand to her, and helping her to
her feet. Both were now hesitant, not knowing what the other was thinking or
feeling. She spoke first: "I know that it's..."

"No." He shook his head. "No. It isn't." He closed his eyes and pulled away
slightly. "God, I was so horrible to you that day. And the day after...and..."

"It's over." She said softly. "You can't change any of it, so please... let's
not stay there." Quietly, "I would like to know why. But maybe there is no
why." Pausing, vunerability showing, "Maybe it was just that you realized..."

"What?" He asked softly. She shook her head, not answering, not wanting to
voice all her self doubts. "What?" He prompted again.

"That I wasn't worth anything more than..." She was near tears and he pulled
her to him.

"No." He whispered. "No." He shook his head. "Look at me Alexis." He cupped
her chin and held her gaze to his. "No." His voice was vehemant. "I never
thought that. Believe me. Please." Pause. "You want to know why?" He asked
softly. "I was scared. I didn't know what to do. And it was so easy just
to..." He trailed off. "Easier than telling you how I really felt. It was one
thing to be turned away from your bed, Alexis, but to be turned away from...
after..." He trailed off and she understood.

She gently kissed him, a deep and soulful kiss. After they broke away, he
pulled her to him and held her for a few minutes. Then, he leaned in and
buried his face in her neck. "I know the floor is out." He whispered softly,
his breath warm and gentle against her skin. "But how about a bed? Is that
allowed?"

She smiled slightly and nodded. "Yeah."

~~

Carly is sitting next to Michael's crib, watching him sleep. She sighs softly.
And she almost jumps when she feels a hand on her shoulder. She looks up to
see Bobbie and smiled. "Hi." She mouths silently.

Bobbie gestures her out to the hall and she follows. "Is something wrong?"
Carly asks, gently shutting the door.

"No." Bobbie shakes her head. "There's a phone call, that's all." Adding
quickly, "From the courthouse. They scheduled your therapy. They want you to
confirm that the days and times are okay."

"Oh. Yeah. I forgot about that. Gee, golly, great six months of therapy. Six
*more* months of therapy." Carly sighed.

"Yeah. I hope you don't mind, but..."

"But what?" Carly asked.

"I had them move it to General Hospital. They were going to make you go all
that way. I know you don't drive, and..."

"That was nice of you. Thanks." Carly smiled. "I'd better not keep them
waiting any longer." She hurried to the phone.

Michelle Craft talked to the man at the front desk. "I'm looking for a Mr.
Jacks." She said, tossing her hair over her shoulder and smiling.  She was a
beautiful woman. Her black hair was shoulder length and simple but dramatic.
Her eyes were black like coal, but they glittered like black pearls apon
command. She had caramel skin, perfect nose and full lips. And she wasn't
lacking in people skills. She was a moody person at times, but she could
change her mood on cue, if need be.

"Would that be Gerald or Jasper, Ma'am." The clerk asked her, glancing at the
records.

"Do I look like a 'Ma'am' to you?" She asked lightly. "I'm not even twenty
nine yet. Certainly, I'm not old enough to be a ma'am." Pause. "Jasper."

"He's requested not to give that information out, ma--miss." The man said
simply, with a shrug.

"Oh?" She sighed and then shrugged. She contemplated pressing for the
information, but didn't. She could easily get it.

"You can leave a message, if you'd like..."

Briskly, "It doesn't matter right away. It's not urgent. No, thank you." She
nodded and was gone.

~~

"If you need anything just call." Jerry told Jax softly.

"I will." Jax said. Jerry nodded and then left, glancing back, concerned, once
before closing the door. It shut with a soft click and Jax sighed again. He
stood up and went to the window.

"By the shadows of the night I go
I moved away from the crowded room
That sea of shallow faces masked in warm regret
They don't know how to feel, they don't know what is lost..."

"Lost in the darkness of a land
Where all the hope that's offered is
Memories of being taken by the hand
And we are led into the sun
But I don't have a hold on what is real
Though we can only try
What is there to give or to believe
I want it all to go away I want to be alone..."

He turned away fromt he window and went to go pour himself a drink. He sighs
and doesn't bother to take a sip, throwing it at a picture of him and Brenda.
It falls to the ground and the glass covering the picture cracks. He stares at
it and the sobs that he's been holding inside overcome him. He sinks to the
ground.

Sympathy's wasted on my hollow shell
I feel there's nothing left to fight for
No reason for a cause
And I can't hear your voice and I can't feel you near..."

"Lost in the darkness of a land
Where all the hope that's offered is
Memories of being taken by the hand
And we are led into the sun
But I don't have a hold on what is real
Though we can only try
What is there to give or to believe
I want it all to go away I want to be alone..."
