Succumbing to the Pressure - 9

Laura sat on her couch at home, wondering how her boys were doing. She had seen Nicholas several times, each time hoping that this would be the time he would talk to her. It never was. She only caught glimpses of a very haggard Lucky as he left his father’s hospital room. She went up there every morning to see how he was. After her first visit, she hadn’t gone in his room any more. It had been too horrible…

“Luke, It’s me, Laura. Oh baby, I’m so sorry. I never meant to hurt you. I love you…only you.” As she finished that his moniter went balistic. It beeped and whirred, his statistics and heart rate raced, then it went dead. Horrified, she hurriedly got out of the doctor’s ways. She left the room after they had stabilized him, running into Bobby.
“So, Laura, had to make sure the job was done huh? Couldn’t just kill him once, you had to kill him twice!” Bobby spat out at her.
“Bobby, I didn’t kill him…” Laura said, her tears streaking her face.
“Oh, save it Laura. You killed his heart! You killed his spirit!”
“Listen Bobby.” Laura said, starting to get angry. “You don’t even know…”
“Oh, yes I do. Your son told me. He told me EVERYTHING. Kissing Stefan. Professing your love, oh, but Luke didn’t hear that one. Keeping Nicholas’ parentage from him. Yeah, you’re a regular ‘Mom Of the Year’!” With that, Bobby stalked out of the room, leaving Laura behind in the cloud of misery and deception that she had created for herself. Since then she had avoided Bobby like the plague, and not stepped one foot into Luke’s room.

Nicholas sat at the docks, where he had been attacked by those guys from PCH. He almost wished they would again. Then he could explain this pain he was feeling. He would have a reason to be hurt, because he would be physically hurt. But he wasn’t physically hurt. He was emotionally hurt. He’d had no idea for 16 years that he had a brother, so why did not having one now hurt so bad? He remembered back to the day Lucky had gotten rid of those punks. “Get the hell off! That’s my BROTHER man!” He smiled at the memory. “Nicholas?”
He looked up, startled at the voice. “Bobby, hey.”
She sat next to him and smiled. She’d always had such as beautiful smile. But now it lacked half its luster. It was still one of the warmest smiles he’d seen in a long time. She put her hand on his knee. “How ya doin’ kiddo?”
He shrugged. “Okay I guess. How’s Luke?”
The light went out of her eyes. A sad look replaced it. “Same. “
“I’m sorry. If it hadn’t been for…”
“Stefan? Yeah, if it hadn’t been for Stefan… but that’s just it. It’s Stefan I blame, not you. And I don’t even know if I blame Stefan. I do know who I’m sure I blame. Laura.” Nicholas nodded. “So, I guess you haven’t spoken to Lucky much huh?” Bobby asked, once again concerned for him.
She was so understanding. “No. But it’s more along the lines of he won’t speak to me.”
“Yeah, well, he’s a Spencer. He’s a stubborn one.” She smiled. Just then Stefan walked by. Bobby and Nicholas glared at him.
“Hello Barbara. Nicholas.” He said, trying not to show his pain.
“Oh, shove it Stefan. Nobody here cares to talk to you. “ Bobby spat at him. She turned to Nicholas and smiled. “Guess I was wrong. I guess I do kinda blame him!” She halfway laughed at her joke.

Stefan sat on the lauch on the way over to the island. ‘God, I’ve lost my son. I’ve lost my love. I’ve lost my world. Maybe I should do the same thing Luke did. There’s a first time for everything.’

Liz sat next to Luke’s bed, crying softly. “Mr. Spencer…” Then she remembered how he reacted to being called this. ‘Girl, I swear, you call me that and I turn around looking for my Dad!’ She smiled sadly. “I mean Luke. Luke, please wake up! I know I’m being selfish, but I want you to wake up for Lucky. He needs you. He won’t talk to me, he won’t talk to Nicholas , he won’t talk to Emily(This is happening at the same time as Emily is talking to Lucky, so Liz doesn’t know about it). Luke, I’m worried about him. He’s shut himself off from the world. He’s been drinking and the only people he’ll talk to is Bobby or you. He needs you so bad. Please be okay Luke.” She grabbed his hand, and looked up, shocked when he squeezed back. But no, he was still in a coma. Must have been her imaginaton.
‘Oh, baby, he’ll get over this.’ Luke’s body lay still as can be, his breath helped by the machines, heart rate monitored, but mind fully awake and functioning. ‘He’s just pissed. I wish you could hear me darlin’. You need to be able to hear me. I’m trying babe. I’m tryin my damndest to wake up. I need to tell Lucky that this was not planned. That I did not try to kill myself.’
