Succumbing to the Pressure - 5

“Em?  What are you so confused about?”  Ned asked her, ushering her into L&B headquarters, understanding that she didn’t want to hassle with the Q’s.
“Ned, if I tell you do you swear not to tell Grandfather…..or mom……. or anyone?”
“Of course.”  Ned sat her down on the couch and turned an attentive ear to her.
“Okay, so….uh….Nicholas kissed me.”  She scrunched her face up in embarrassment. She waited for him to scream or yell, in typical Quartermaine fashion, but she forgets, Ned is NO  ordinary Quartermaine!  He only smiles in encouragement for her to go on.  “OK, so he called and he…he was really upset about…something.  S, I went to see him, to help him ya know?”  Ned nodded at her.  “And, he started to…to cry, and when he stopped he said he was sorry, and I told him to not be….then he kissed me.  Oh, Ned, you know how much I like him.  And for so long.  I was, like, in heaven!  But then…suddenly…he just pulled away and ran off, saying it was a mistake and to forgive him.”  Emily spilt a few tears.
Ned reached over and brushed the hair back from her tear streaked face.   He chuckled slightly.  “Emily, it’s nothing to worry about.  Sounds to me like he was scared.”
 “Scared of WHAT?!”
“Scared that 1. You didn’t feel the same and it would ruin ya’lls current friendship, 2. You did, and it would ruin your friendship, or 3. He’s just make an ass of himself.  Common guy stupidity.  Talk to him Emily.  It’s clear he does like you.”  Ned smiled reassuringly.
“How, cause he kissed me?  What if…what if it was just the moment, or…or…he wished I was someone else…or”
“Em, you worry TOO much!”  Ned cracked up laughing.  “OBVIOUSLY you’re pretty, you ARE a model, and you have a GREAT personality, what’s not to like?”
“You’re prejudiced.” Emily said with crossed arms, the hint of a smile coming through.
“Maybe so, but I’m right!  I’m always right!”

Luke got up and walked towards his office.  “Dad, where ya goin?”  Lucky slurred.  ‘Quit that man!’ he yelled at himself to stop slurring.  Then he laughed.  It was pretty funny.  Nicholas and he caught eyes and they cracked up.
Luke looked back at them.  “to my office to..uh…think.  Don’t worry bout me, just need to lay down.  He walked in his office and sat behind his desk.  He pulled his familiear bottle of whiskey, good ole whiskey, to him.  He poured himself another glass (about the tenth that night).  “Cheers, baby, you see what you’ve done to me?  Proud of yourself?  You have fun with Count Vlad, I’ll have fun with Mr. Jack Daniels!”  He rose his glass in an imaginary toast to Laura and smiled sarcastically.
“Hey, Nick?  Do you think I should be worried about my dad?  He’s kinda drunk, don ya thin?”
“I ‘thin’ you’re kinda drunk Lucky.”  Nicholas shook his head at Lucky.
“Yeah, but at least I can not have to think about mom and be mad for once.”  Lucky silghed.
‘God, he’s gone!’  Nicholas thought to himself.  ‘I’d better get him upstairs and to bed before he passes out or hurts himself.’  Outloud he said “Yeah, but you do know it’s only temporary Lucky, right?”
“Yeah, yeah.  Prince knows best right.  Well listen, you might be my brother, but don’t act like it okay.”  Lucky shook his head, annoyed.  ‘The nerve of that guy!’
“Whatever Lucky, listen, let’s go up to your room, I beat.”
Completely oblivious that Nicholas had spoken Lucky, continued.  “Besides, you had some too.  Who are you to talk.  Just shutup man.  I’m goin to my room, are you commin or not?”
Nicholas eyed Lucky wearily.  He didn’t feel like dealing with this.  First, his uncle turns out to be his father, then, like an idiot, he kisses Emily, and possibly ruins their friendship, and now Lucky is drunk.  He had enough problems without having to fight the stupid “Cassidine vs. Spencer” battle.  He slowly trudged up the stairs after his brother, dreading the what lay ahead.

“Laura, what are you talking about?  What happened to them?  Are they okay?  They’re not…hurt are they?”  Liz asked, worried.
“Oh, Liz, they’re hurt alright, just not the way you mean.”
“Then how Laura?”  Liz sat by Laura and put her hand on top of Laura’s.  Laura smiled at the sweet gesture.
“I’ve betrayed them.  I betrayed Luke with Stefan, I’ve betrayed Nicholas with lies, and I’ve betrayed Lucky’s trust.  I’ll never get them back.  I’ve lost them forever.”
 “With Stefan…?”
“Yes.  Liz, he kissed me, Stefan did, and that’s when Luke showed up.  I had no idea he was even ion town, else I would have never let him in the house…”
“Laura, don’t make excuses to me…I’m not the one you  should be worried about.”
“You’re right.  And Lucky and Nicholas watched the whole thing.  It was horrible.”  Liz stood up slowly.  “I suppose you hate me as well to huh?”
“No, it’s just, well, I feel like I’m betraying Lucky by helping you when he’s hurt…”
Laura smiled at her.  She was a loyal girl, and anyone loyal to her Lucky was someone she liked, even if it was against her.  “Go, Liz, I understand.  Go be with Lucky.”
Liz backed towards the door.  “It’s nothing personal, you understand…”
“Yes, dear, I understand…Shoo!”  Laura halfway smiled a tearful smile at her.  With that Elizabeth shut the door and left to find Lucky.   Laura broke down in hysterics again.  “God, what have I done to deserve this!”
