Lucky slowly pulled back and looked Destiny in the eyes. Suddenly she blinked
and jumped off of the bed. “No, no, no, that did NOT happen Lucky!” She
turned away and put her hand to her mouth.
He stood up and took her hand from behind her back. “Des…”
She whirled around. “Lucky, no!” She shook her head. “We have been
friends since we were what? Five?” He looked at her, worried that she hated
him now. She knitted her eyebrows together. “Lucky, I don’t wanna be your
rebound chick, got it?”
“Rebound chick?” Lucky whispered, confused.
Destiny put her other hand over Lucky’s hand. “Listen Luck, you’re
a great guy, and I love you, but… If I think for one second that you could
ever feel for me the way you do about Liz, I’d be a fool. And see, I get
WAY too attached, WAY too easy.” She started to back out the door.
Lucky panicked. He couldn’t just let her go like that. She was too
good of a friend. “Destiny, wait! Don’t leave!”
She looked at him and flashed her familiar Jenkin’s smile. “Lucky,
I’ll be back.” She trew her hands upand smirked. “Where would I go anyway!”
Then she went out the door. She leaned against it a finally let her tears
fall out.

Liz looked at Laura. “Oh my God. I can’t be here. I… I have to go!”
She got up to flee, but the devastated look on Laura’s face stopped her.
“Liz, what is it? Why are you so upset?”
“Laura. Its Lucky. He, he still won’t speak to me. And… and today I
went to see him, and he … had… a… girl over.”
“Oh. Well Liz, wait, was it a blond girl, with Blue eyes?” Liz tearfully
nodded. Laura laughed sympathetically. “Oh, Liz. That’s Destiny. You have
nothing to worry about!” Laura said, putting a hand on Liz’s shoulder.
Liz looked at her quizzically. “She’s a friend of the family. Here, sit,
let me tell you the whole story…”

Destiny sat at the bar in Luke’s, twirling a shot glass in her hands,
smokinga cigarette. “Well, well, darlin’, what brings you to my humble
establishment?”
Destiny jumped, nearly spilling the contents of her shot glass of Gin,
her choice of alcohol. “Jeez Luke! You scared the CRUD outta me!” Destiny
shouted at him.
Luke sat down by her and nudged her with his elbow. “So, Des, what’s
wrong?”
“Men.. they suck!” With that she downed the contents of her glass.
“Woah there girl. What’d my son DO?”
“Oh, not Lucky. It’s not Lucky.” She looked Luke in the eye. “Okay,
well it’s not REALLY Lucky. Not totally.”
“Wanna talk?”
Destiny sighed. “I don’t know…”
“Come on girl… tell Dr. Doolittle!” Luke said, putting a hand on hers.
Destiny laughed. “Okay, I guess. Well see, there’s this guy at home.
He was… my first love. My first real… everything.” She looked pointedlyu
at Luke. “Everything.” Luke nodded, understanding.
“Okay. Well, see that’s what I told him, and that’s what I believe,
cause, see, my first… sexual encounter.. wasn’t exactly pleasant. And I
was so embarrassed, and ashamed, that I told him I was still a virgin.”
Luke hung his head, thinking about what she had told him. ‘All this hurt,
and I caused somebody this.’ Thinking about Laura. “Luke, it’s okay. Lucky
told me. It doesn’t bug me, it was ages ago.” Luke looked at her, surprised.
“So anyway, when I did finally tell him, he got real mad and reared
back like he was gonna hit me…”
“That son of a …”
Destiny put her hand on his shoulder to calm him down. “But he didn’t.
It still really scared me, so, I told him to go to hell… and here I am.
I was living with him, but if that’s the way he is sober when he gets mad,
just imagine him drunk.” She felt a few tears come down. She missed Roger,
even though she knew it was stupid, he could be a really great guy.
Luke reached over and hugged her tightly. “You tell me the word, and
he’s gone sister…”
Destiny pulled back and laughed, wiping away her tears. “It’s okay
Luke. Man, thanks for letting me vent, guess I really needed that.”
Luke stroked her cheek (in a fatherly way). “Baby, everybody needs
a little venting sometimes.”

About two hours later Destiny walked quietly into Lucky’s apartment.
The lights were on and Lucky was asleep on the floor. ‘Aw, that’s so sweet.
He’s letting me have the bed.’ She saw that he was cold and only had a
makeshift pillow out of a shirt, so she gently took the shirt and replaced
it with a pillow and put his top blanket on him. Then she turned out the
lights and crawled into bed. “Lucky?” She whispered.
“Hunh?” He grunted groggily.
She laughed. “Nothin, nevermind, go back to sleep.” About two seconds
later she heard snores coming from him. She lay there in the dark, a plan
to show her appreciation beginning to develop.
