"Not so fast!" she heard a
voice say to her as she took a step forward.
She turned to see Alex Garcia standing
there with a menacing look upon
his face as he reached out causing
her to drop Sigmund. "Did you think
I'd let you get away so easily
Ms. Coe?"
"Let go of me!" Lucy shouted
struggling to break free as he tightened
his grip upon her.
"It's time for me to teach
you a lesson." he whispered in her ear as he
began to squeeze his large hands
around her neck and began to choke her.
Lucy tried to fight Garcia
as he continued to tighten his grip around
her neck. She coughed as
she swung her arms wildly at him in an attempt
to escape. She could feel
her eyes watering up as she began to grow
weak. She felt as if she
was about to pass out when suddenly Garcia
released his hold on her.
"Damn it!" he shouted moving
a step back as Lucy looked down on the
ground to see Sigmund attacking
his leg.
"Get him Siggy!" she cheered
catching her breath as Garcia attempted to
defend himself against Sigmund.
Lucy watched as Sigmund squawked and
hissed at Garcia while he was protecting
her. She let out a relieved
grin as Sigmund continued to come
to her rescue. "You show him not to
mess with us!"
"Enough of these foolish games!"
Garcia snapped pulling out his gun and
aiming it at Sigmund.
"No!" Lucy shouted in horror
diving at Garcia and causing the bullet to
ricochet off of a tree. She
watched as Sigmund sat motionless looking
at her as if he was waiting for
her to tell him what the next move was.
"Run for it Siggy!"
"That bird's going to die."
Garcia growled aiming his gun once more as
Lucy began to punch at him.
"Get off of me Lucy!"
"Run Siggy! Save yourself!
" Lucy repeated as Garcia fired his gun
again at the duck. After
the second shot Sigmund began to waddle across
the grass hurriedly. Lucy
felt her heart racing as Garcia continued to
fire shots at him. She began
to struggle with Garcia until Sigmund was
a safe distance away from them
and a smile crossed her lips. "You're
safe! You got away Siggy!
You got away!"
"Too bad we can't say
the same for you." Garcia laughed in a menacing
tone as he jabbed the barrel of
his gun into Lucy's back. "Now what do
you say you and I take a stroll
back into the cabin?"
Kevin could hear faint noises
in the distance as he lay on the ground
after the explosion. He felt
his head throbbing and after what felt
like an eternity, he found himself
in a place where everything was dark.
He looked around, but could see
nothing as the sounds of laughter filled
his ears.
"The game is over. You
lost Kevin." the voice cackled in the distance
as Kevin strained to see.
"Who's there?" Kevin asked
moving forward with his hands placed before
him.
"Doc, help me!" he heard Lucy's voice scream in the distance.
"Lucy!" he called out to her
trying to locate the direction her voice
was coming from. "Lucy where
are you?"
"She's gone." Ryan explained
stepping out of the darkness to face
Kevin. "You've lost her buddy."
"No, I haven't lost her."
Kevin said shaking his head in denial. "This
is just another one of your tricks
Ryan. You're dead."
"Am I?" Ryan laughed moving
closer to Kevin. "If that's true, then
why do we keep meeting like this?"
"You're just a part of my
subconscious Ryan. You're nothing more than
an illusion." Kevin replied staring
into his brother. "You don't exist
anymore."
"That may be true in the external
world Kevin, but in your mind I'm
more alive now than when I was
breathing and walking around." Ryan
explained stepping forward.
"You've made me into what I am and now it's
your destiny to become one with
me."
"No, never." Kevin began stepping
back and shaking his head. "I'll
never be like you."
"You already are Kevin." Ryan
laughed at him. "Look at all the chaos
you've created."
"It's not my fault." Kevin
replied covering his ears to block out
Ryan's words. "You aren't
real."
"Don't fight it, you're just like me." Ryan continued taunting him.
"No, I'm not." Kevin spoke
up in a shaky voice. "I'm nothing like you.
I never meant to hurt anyone."
"That's right Kevin the saint.
When you wrote your novel you never
meant to hurt anyone. It
must be your imagination that people have been
dying. You never meant to
provide the ground work for a murderer."
"Stop this!" Kevin shouted
feeling as though he was on the verge of a
breakdown.
"Admit it. They all
deserved to die....especially Lucy after what she
did to you on your wedding day.
The humiliation she caused you when she
lied to you. She deserves
to die, right?" Ryan questioned in a menacing
tone.
"No, no!" Kevin shouted waking
up from his nightmare and discovering
that he was still laying upon the
grass. He looked around him at the
burning embers of the crash behind
him and he realizes that he must keep
going in order to protect Lucy
from danger.
Kevin tries to pull himself
off of the ground when he hears faint
quacking in the distance.
He turns his head to the left as pain runs up
along the side of his face and
he sees what appears to be a duck coming
towards him.
"Sigmund?" he questions wondering
if he's having another hallucination
as the duck moves to his side.
"Is that really you?"
"Quack-quack." Sigmund squaws nudging Kevin's side with his beak.
"It is you.........it's really
you. Where's Lucy?" Kevin spoke up as
he pulled himself into a sitting
position and took Sigmund in his arms.
He held Sigmund close to him and
he felt something dripping onto his
arm. He looked down and noticed
that Sigmund was bleeding. "Oh God,
you've been hurt."
Kevin managed to ignore the
pain in his head long enough to stand up
and scan the woods around him.
He noticed that the flames coming out of
his car had begun to extinguish
as he began to shift his gaze up the
hill. He looked down at Sigmund
for a brief second before taking a step
forward and hearing Sigmund let
out a cry.
"We've got to get to Lucy."
Kevin explained looking up the hill as his
head began to throb. He let
out a sigh and held Sigmund tighter
determined not to let Lucy slip
out of his life forever. "I'm on my way
Lucy."
