"Lucy." he spoke watching
her dash across the room to retrieve her
jacket.
"I.....I thought that you
were Kevin. He was supposed to meet me up
here tonight and...............oh
gosh, am I so embarrassed... I'm so
sorry about this........if I would've
known that you were coming up
here, I would've thought to have
something else on when you arrived."
she rambled on throwing on her
jacket looking at him. She paused for a
moment and looked at him closely.
"Come to think of it, what are you
doing here Detective?"
"We got a call down at the
station hinting at the whereabouts of the
General Homicide murderer and when
Kevin caught word of it, he asked me
to come up here to make sure that
you were alright." Garcia explained
watching her look around the room
aimlessly.
"Oh I see, well that's my
Doc always looking out for me. It's that
sweet? He fell asleep waiting
for Doc to come here." Lucy replied
noticing that Sigmund had fallen
asleep on one of the couch cushions.
"He is still coming, right?"
"Kevin? Of course."
Garcia assured her with a smile. "He said he
wouldn't miss seeing you for the
world."
"So what now?" Lucy asked
wishing that she could've had some time alone
with Kevin before Garcia had showed
up.
"We wait." Garcia explained
looking past her into the kitchen. "Got
anything to drink around here?"
Kevin drove through the streets
of Port Charles with his mind racing
frantically as he imagined the
kind of danger Lucy could be in up in the
mountains alone considering what
she had gotten herself into the last
time she was up there. But
this time was different, he reminded
himself. This time she thought
that she was going to be meeting with
him, so he knew her defenses would
be down. He began to hear his heart
pounding in his chest rapidly and
he decided that he was going to have
to get to her before anything happened
and he couldn't live with
himself. He began to accelerate
on the gas as an idea popped into his
head.
"Lucy's cell phone!" Kevin
gasped picking up his own phone and dialing
her number only to get a message
that her service was out. He tossed
his phone onto the passenger seat
in frustration realizing that she had
to be in danger as the phone started
to ring. He picked it up
instinctively and spoke.
"Lucy, is that you?"
"Kevin, it's Mac." the voice
on the other line spoke up. "Ellen
Burgess just called the station
in a panic. What's going on?"
"It's Lucy," Kevin explained
to his friend, "she's gotten herself into
danger again and I have a sick
feeling that something terrible is going
to happen to her."
"Where is she?" Mac asked wondering what Lucy had gotten herself into.
"Someone sent her a letter
and she went up to the Blue Ridge Cabins
thinking that she was supposed
to meet me. Look I can't get into all
the details, but I get the feeling
that whoever sent Lucy that note was
up to something and I get the feeling
she's in serious danger."
"You know I haven't been up in the
mountains since I was a child."
Garcia spoke up going through the
pantry as Lucy sat on the couch trying
to distract herself with a magazine.
"These woods used to always
conjure up so many good memories
for me."
"Garcia, it's getting pretty
late. Do you have any idea how long it's
going to take Kevin to get here?"
Lucy questioned looking up from her
magazine.
"He said he wanted to check
on Victor at the hospital before he made
his way up here." Garcia explained
walking into the living room with a
box of trail mix in hand.
He moved over next to her and held the box
out in front of her. "Would
you like some?"
"No thanks. I'm not
into roughing it." Lucy replied wrinkling her nose
in disgust.
"You don't know what you're
missing." Garcia shrugged sitting down on
the couch next to her.
"So how long before you left
the station was it that you talked to
Kevin?" Lucy asked anxiously turning
to face him.
"Oh I don't know.........ten,
fifteen minutes." Garcia sighed placing
his trail mix on the table.
"It's hard to keep track these days with
everything that's been going on."
"Yeah, I guess your job could
be rather demanding." Lucy agreed
noticing that he had inched closer
towards her. "So Garcia............"
"Lucy," he breathed placing his arm out around the back of the couch.
"You know, on second thought,
I'm getting very hungry." she announced
standing up and walking into the
kitchen.
"Is something wrong Lucy?" Garcia questioned watching her every move.
"No, nope, uh-uh, why would
you say that?" Lucy asked fidgeting through
the drawers hoping that Kevin would
arrive soon so that she wouldn't
have to spend a second more alone
with Detective Garcia.
"Because if I didn't know
better, I'd say that you were trying to avoid
me." Garcia blurted out standing
up and walking over towards her.
"Why would I be doing something
like that?" Lucy questioned inching
back into the counter as Garcia
cornered her in.
"I just get the feeling that
you're uneasy around me Lucy." Garcia
breathed moving closer still.
"No, not at all." Lucy answered
nervously feeling behind the counter
for her cell phone. "You
know maybe we should check on Kevin to make
sure that he's alright."
"I'm sure he's fine Lucy." Garcia said reaching out to her.
"I just want to check." she
replied quickly pulling out her cell phone
and trying to turn it on.
"Lucy, I don't think that's
necessary." Garcia insisted grabbing the
phone out of her hands and tossing
it across the floor.
"Why did you do that?" she
asked in disbelief watching her phone
shatter into pieces.
"I think you know why Lucy."
Garcia spoke in a menacing tone as he
gripped onto her tightly.
Kevin drove up the mountainside
in a frenzy praying that his gut
feelings weren't right. He
thought of the last time he had seen Lucy
and how he had left her alone in
the middle of GH without a second
thought. He closed his eyes
for a second and thought about their
wedding day when the truth about
Lucy's deception had come out. He
reopened his eyes trying to concentrate
on the road ahead of him as his
thoughts of Lucy continued to circulate.
"Stop thinking about this."
he ordered himself as he drifted back to
his proposal and the thought of
what it felt like to hold Lucy in his
arms. With each passing moment,
he found himself sinking into the
realization of what he had been
trying to deny to himself for weeks.
"I can't live without her.
I love her too much." Kevin blurted out
realizing that he had to get to
Lucy no matter what. He accelerated the
car and turned another curve a
bit too fast. He was almost at the top
of the hill when he noticed a tree
down in the middle of the road. He
tried to avoid hitting the tree,
but at the speed he was traveling a
collision was inevitable.
