Brenda opened her eyes, disoriented.
For a moment she thought she was
blind, until she remembered that
Spike had made her sleep in a coffin.
She took a few minutes to test
out the new powers he had said she would
have. She listened carefully
for a moment and was pleased to discover
that she could hear a conversation
that was going on in the next room.
"Hearing's good," she thought happily.
Feeling only slightly guilty,
she eavesdropped on her new benefactors.
"Pet, I know you miss him," Spike
was saying angrily, "but you've got to
get over it. He's gone.
Last time I checked he was in Hell."
Brenda had to smile at this.
So, little Miss Dru wasn't so perfect
after all. Seemed she wanted
more than Spike had to give. "I wonder
who HE is," she thought idly.
"He's back," Drusilla answered in
her sing-song voice. "I can feel
him. He's close. We
should go find him, Spikey. Please, can Princess
go find Daddy? I'll bring
him back and we can be a family again."
"I don't think so Dru," a new voice intruded into the conversation.
"Now this is interesting," Brenda
thought, opening the lid of the
coffin. She slowly lifted
her head and sat up in the coffin only to see
Carly doing likewise in the coffin
across the room. Motioning for the
other woman to remain quiet, Brenda
stealthily emerged from the coffin
and made her way silently to the
door. What she saw when she peered
through the slightly open doorway
would have taken her breath away if
she had actually had any.
Standing in the adjacent room, being circled
by Drusilla was the most perfect
sight she had ever beheld. He was just
absolutely perfect. "Oh my
god," she whispered. "Carly, come here.
You've got to see this guy," she
hissed at the other woman.
"Who's that?" Carly asked in appreciation
when she saw him. "He's
exquisite."
"He's mine," Brenda informed her with a glint in her eye.
Carly smiled wickedly. "That's
fine. I've got other things in mind.
Jason, I think, would make the
perfect companion for me. I just have to
figure out a way to get away from
Sid and Nancy in there and I can go
find him."
Brenda pondered the situation for
a minute. "I'll tell you what," she
whispered conspiratorially.
"I'll help you get out of here if you'll
help me get that psycho away from
that guy in there."
"Okay," Carly agreed, nodding at
her new partner in intrigue. "I think
I know just the way to do it, too,"
she said wickedly, pulling the door
open and sashaying out into the
room.
Spike and Dru looked up quickly as Carly strode into the room. Their dead eyes fixed on Carly and she smiled innocently. "Can't a girl have a little company?" she asked and sidled over to the three. "I don't think we've met," she said sweetly, and extended a hand toward the latest arrival.
He smiled slightly and took her hand in his, his lips brushing lightly across it. Brenda, watching cautiously from the doorway, drew in a sharp breath, and hissed angrily. Spike's head swiveled toward her and she winced and drew back from the doorway.
Spike's eyes narrowed as he continued
to stare toward the doorway, then he turned back to the others.
Carly settled herself in a chair
and regarded the handsome newcomer . "So---I'm sorry I didn't catch your
name," she said casually.
A tiny smile appeared at the corners
of his mouth. "I didn't say," he said simply.
"Well," Carly said. "That would
probably be why." She looked past the seething pair of vampires and saw
Brenda waving at her anxiously from the doorway. "So, are you going to
keep me waiting around all day?" Carly asked, deliberately ignoring the
sharp looks from Spike and Dru. "What's your name?"
"Angel."
