Sonny opened the door to the club
allowing the early morning light to
pour into the darkened barroom.
He hated opening, especially when it
meant leaving his warm bed and
wife behind. Sonny turned on the lights,
noting the mess. Several chairs
were knocked over and the door to the
office was kicked in. The bloody
footprints of several people lay in a
trail from the office to the door.
"What went down here?!"
Drawing his gun, Sonny cautiously stepped into the office.
"What the hell?"
He slowly lowered his gun as he
took in the scene before him. Small red
dots covered the back wall. A dried
blood stain masked most of the
floor. Sonny noticed a small bloody
bundle by his feet. Picking it up he
immediately recognized it as one
of Luke's patented flannel shirts.
"Oh man.........."
Sonny ran out of the office already dialing on his cellphone.

Bobbie shifted uncomfortably in
the hard plastic chair. She had been
sitting in the emergency room holding
Laura's hand and reassuring her of
what, she still wasn't really sure.
Being a trained nurse she could tell
from Lucky's wound that the shot
was from close range, and probably
self-inflicted. That was the most
disturbing part....... why would he do
this? Bobbie glanced over at Laura.
She had given up trying to ask her
what happened a while ago, Laura
had been too hysterical...... but now,
now she sat rocking back and forth
clutching Bobbie in one hand, and a
few of Lucky's personal effects
the paramedics had given her in the
other. This whole situation made
Bobbie's head spin...... Her nephew had
tried to commit suicide and may
have suceeded....... Laura was having a
mental breakdown, and Luke had
taken off, leaving his possibly dying son
in the hospital-- something he
would NEVER do........... before today.
Bobbie turned back to her sister-in-law.
She was staring at the floor in
front of her, caressing a watch
in her hand. The watch her and Luke had
given Lucky on his 13th birthday.
Her finger ran over the inscription on
the back, "To our pride and joy,
Love Mom and Dad". Laura was dead to
all emotion.
Boobie looked and saw Amy frantically
running down the stairs. Her
cheeks were stained with mascara.
Amy choked on her tears when she saw
Bobbie and Laura sitting here,
confirming all the rumors....... for once
in her life she was at a loss for
words. Bobbie once again looked over
to Laura. She gave her hand a quick
squeeze, and when she got on
response stood up and gave Amy
a hug.
"It's......... it's true?"
Bobbie led Amy a discreet distance
away and replied by simply nodding
her head.
"Is he......"
"We don't know."
"How is my sister?"
Bobbie glanced back over her shoulder
at Laura who was still staring,
rocking back and forth. She turned
back to Amy.
"Not good......... not good at all.
She's been sitting there, oblivious
to the outside world for nearly
an hour........ She's having a mental
breakdown Amy. I think we need
to admit her."
"She'll never let us admit her, not when Lucky may need her........"
"She's not going to be any good
to Lucky in this condition...... She
poses a threat to herself and others........
Look Amy, I'm really scared
for her...... and for Lucky."
Amy nodded her head as she wiped away a stray tear.
"Where's Luke?"
Bobbie shrugged her shoulders as
she wiped the tears that threatened to
fall from her eyes.
"I don't know...... he came in,
told me to take care of Lucky, and
walked out of here. I don't think
he ever even acknowledged Laura."
Amy's brow furrowed in confusion.
"What? That doesn't sound like Luke. He would never........"
"I know. I don't know what's going
on, but we have to focus on what we
do know....... we need to get Laura
help, and then face the situation
with Lucky."
************************************************************************
Luke looked away from the road and
at his cellphone in the seat next to
him. He had been debating whether
to pick it up for three rings now.
"Dammit!"
Losing the battle he flipped the phone open and gruffly answered.
"Spencer."
An audible sigh could be heard from the other end. Luke's brow furrowed.
"Sonny?"
"Man, you had me worried! I was
just over at the club....... what
happened?"
Luke's jaw tightened as the events of that night raced through his head.
"It's a long story......."
"I got time."
"Lucky's not my son."
Sonny looked around the inside of
his limo as if waiting for Luke to
jump out and yell April Fools.
"What?!"
"Yeah, turns out Laura's been playing Lasha, vampire sex toy."
"What about the office? The blood? You didn't kill her did you?"
"No, but I wish I had......... Lucky shot himself."
Sonny's jaw hung open.
"Oh my g........ is he alright?!"
Luke closed his eyes as images of
his son laying in a pool of blood
flooded his mind. His voice cracked
as he answered.
"No......."
"He's not........"
"I don't know."
"Luke where are you?"
Luke laughed as he brushed a tear away.
"Passing the corner of 5th and Hawthorne."
"Where are you going?"
"Where else? Steffie's place......
wanted to see for myself what all the
fuss is about."
"You gonna kill him?"
Luke sighed angrily.
"I can't."
The statement shocked Sonny. He
never thought Luke was going to say
that.
"What?! Why?"
"Because............"
Luke took a deep breath before continuing.
"Because Steffin is Lucky's biological
father......... Lucky's going to
need a lot of surgeries, he may
need him....... assuming he's still
alive...."
"Haven't you ever heard of blood banks?!"
"If there's one thing I learned
from the whole Lulu thing it's that
having blood relatives close never
hurts."
Sonny nodded his head understandingly.
"Alright man, but you know, if you
ever want me to........"
"I know........ look there is something
you could do for me........ go
check on my kid...."
"I'm already on my way."
"Thanks Sonny."
Luke flipped his phone shut and
brought his car to a stop. Removing the
back of his cellphone he pulled
out a battery and put it in his pocket.
"Sorry, no interruptions tonight."
************************************************************************
Stefan placed the phone back in
it's cradle. Adjusting his jacket, he
removed his cellular phone from
his inner pocket and placed it in a
drawer. Opening another drawer,
Stefan extracted a small pistol. A smile
slid across his face as he put
it in his coat pocket.
"I don't understand....... I've
tried 3 times but it just keeps saying
the phone is not in operation......"
Bobbie leaned back against the payphone, shutting her eye.
"You don't think he's doing something stupid do you?"
Bobbie raised her eyebrows and looked down at Amy who sat next to her.
"My brother? Never......." Her voice dripped with sarcasm.
An outburst of screams erupted from
the room they were standing outside
of. Amy and Bobbie's heads snapped
around to stare at the door. Amy put
her hand to her mouth while Bobbie
swallowed the lump in her throat.
"Maybe I should go in there........"
"We've got to let them handle this
Amy........... Laura needs this
Everything's going to be......."
Bobbie couldn't finish the sentence.
She sank into the seat next to her.
Her brave facade was fading fast.
She didn't know how much longer she
could keep diluting herself into
thinking everything would turn out
fine. Laura had started screaming
hysterically the minute the nurses
touched her, and she hadn't stopped
yet. The doctors had administered
her a sedative and Bobbie couldn't
wait for it to kick in...... She
didn't know how much more of this
screaming she could take before she
broke down herself........ And
Lucky....... It had been so long since
they heard anything...... Not since
Tony had announced he would be
taking over Lucky's case. This
gave Bobbie a little comfort. Tony was
the best neurologist in Port Charles,
he knew the case, and Bobbie would
trust him with her life.......
and now her nephew's.
Bobbie looked up to see Tony rounding
the corner. He wore a solemn
expression on his face. She could
feel her heart race as she ran towards
him, afraid of what he was going
to say.
"Tony?"
Amy ran over and grabbed Bobbie's
hand. Tony looked between the two of
them.
"Where are Luke and Laura?"
"We can't get a hold of Luke, and
Laura..... Laura's been admitted to
the psych ward...... Tony what's
going on?"
"Maybe we should sit down."
"Please just tell us....."
"Alright............. so far Lucky's
lived up to his name. Usually a
gunshot wound to the head is immediately
fatal.......... he's made it
this far......... I'm not saying
he's out of the woods, in fact he's
very critical. But we have a chance
to save him. We need to do surgery
right away."
A spark of hope lit in Bobbie. He's
alive........ he has a chance......
She eagerly replied.
"Well what are you waiting for? Do it!"
"Bobbie, you know we can't perform
this surgery without the consent of a
parent or guardian. Laura is not
capable of making decisions.... you
need to get Luke here...... and
fast. We can't wait much longer.
"Can't one of us sign? We're his aunts!"
Tony closed his eyes and shook his head.
"I'm sorry but we need his father's consent."
"Then you'll want Stefan........."
Everyone whipped around to see Sonny
entering with his entourage of
bodyguards.
"WHAT?!!"
"Luke isn't Lucky's father, Stefan is."
Both women let out outraged gasps,
while Tony stood behind, his jaw hung
in shock.
"NO! That can't be right, you must be mistaken....."
Bobbie trailed off as her gaze fell
upon the door to the psych room that
held Laura. The pieces were falling
together.......it was true.
"Oh my god....... Luke........ where is he?"
"I just talked to him, he's okay."
"When......... How did he...."
"He was looking through Lucky's
records and he noticed Lucky's blood
type doesn't match up with either
his or Laura's."
Tony tried to shake off the shock as he cleared his throat.
"If this is true we need to do a
paternity test to verify it, and Lucky
doesn't have that much time.....
I recommend we find Luke."
"I'll go try to call Luke again."
Bobbie turned to leave.
"I'm gonna go looking for him......"
Sonny walked with Bobbie until they
reached a payphone. Sighing Bobbie
turned to him.
"Are you sure my brother's alright? I mean he's so impulsive and......"
"Like I said, I talked to him not
that long ago, and I mean, yeah he was
upset, but I don't think he was
going to run out and do something
stupid...... I'm going to go find
him and bring him back anyway. I'll
put a guard outside Lucky's room
too........ just to be safe."
"I should probably call Stefan........
You know.... I always thought
Luke and I were lucky because we
have the same blood type.... O.... and
I know neither of us would have
a moment's hesitation if we had to bleed
for each other...... I just hope
Lucky can have that security some
day........ I hope Lucky will live
to see that day....."
Bobbie put her head in her hands,
and for the first time allowed herself
to really cry.
Sonny shifted uncomfortably. Was
he supposed to comfort her or give her
privacy...... this was not his
area of expertise. Finally deciding he
couldn't keep staring at her, Sonny
awkwardly put his arm around
Bobbie's shoulders.
************************************************************************
"Tony, what if we can't find Luke? How long can we wait!?"
Amy desperately searched Tony's
face for clues as to how her nephew was
really doing.
Tony only responded by casting his eyes downward.
"Can't you just do the surgery!?"
"I could get my license taken away.....
I could be prosecuted by
law....... Not to mention the fact
that it's unethical for me to bend
the rules for him!"
"Oh and it's ethical to let him DIE!?!"
"Ahem....."
Tony and Amy turned to see a nervous
orderly attempting to interrupt
their argument.
"S....Someone called for O?" He held up several pints of blood.
"Yeah, trauma one."
They watched as he hustled to the
room. Tony slowly turned around to
face Amy and noticed Bobbie emphatically
walking towards them, a
disappointed look on her face.
Tony closed his eyes and took a deep
breath.
"Who wants to sign? You or Bobbie?"
************************************************************************
Luke stepped into the front foyer
and paused, taking in the
surroundings.
"Knock, knock......... Avon calling!"
Luke swaggered into the living room
and abruptly stopped when he noticed
it was empty. Glancing up he saw
a portrait of Laura hung over the
fireplace. He stared at it with
disgust.
"Was I always this blind, or does it just come with age......."
His eyes focused on the face in
the portrait....... the face of beauty,
the face of innocence, the face
of an angel..... the face he
loved....... or used to. No longer
was it beautiful, innocent, or
angelic. It was a face of betrayal,
and he didn't know how he'd ever be
able to look at it again........
but that's not what mattered right
now...... Lucky was. And he was
going to have a nice long talk with
Steffie to see that Lucky got everything
he needed. What he didn't need
was a bunch of Cassadines hanging
around, and he made that clear. But
Luke also knew he couldn't go around
killing Lucky's blood
relatives...... they've already
needed bone marrow from them once.......
god forbid....
Luke turned his attention back to
the room. It was dimly lit, which
really wasn't all that unusual
for spook island. A fire crackled in the
fireplace. Moving over to the desk
he noticed a small stack of legal
documents. He held the papers up
using the illumination of the fire to
read.
PETITION FOR SOLE CUSTODY OF ONE LUCAS LORENZO SPENCER, JR.
Luke's eyes flamed with rage.
"You'll never get him you bastard!!"
Picking up the nearest object he
threw it with all his might. He
overturned the desk sending it's
contents flying. Nikolas came running
down the stairs to see what was
going on. He stopped cold when he saw
Luke furiously destroying everything
in his path.
"LUKE! What do you think you're doing?!!!"
Luke turned bitterly to Nikolas.
"Get outta here Nikky...... this doesn't concern you."
"The hell it doesn't! You're destroying my home!"
Luke laughed harshly. "You Cassadines........
always so damn
possessive......"
Nikolas reached for the phone.
"I'm calling security."
With an eerie calmness, Luke turned back to Nikolas.
"Put the phone down boy......."
Nikolas stared at him, a mixture
of fear and defiance on his face. He
pressed the final button and replaced
the phone in it's cradle.
"They'll be here any time now."
"Dammit!"
Luke picked up a crystal decanter
off the liquor cart and forcefully
threw it at the portrait of Laura.
It shattered, sending glass flying
and several small trickles of alcohol
rolling down the wall. Nikolas,
fearful of Luke's rage discreetly
slipped out of the room. Luke turned,
taking a final look at the damage
before bolting out the door.
The fire grew as it ate more and
more wood. The flames danced and played
around the top of the fireplace.
A small stream of bourbon trickled
down, catching a flame. The fire
licked up the alcohol, soon engulfing
the entire wall.

Stefan held his gun in his hand as he tromped through the woods.
"Come on Spencer....... show your face."
Hearing a twig snap behind him Stefan
whirled around and fired. He
watched as the shadowy figure fell
to the ground.
